Staff Spotlight
Dear Bullfrog
Families
My name is Donna
Sagona and I have the honor of being the assistant
principal at The Creek. I thought I'd begin my
Spotlight by sharing some advise that my mother gave me
when I was in school. Her favorite quote was, "If you
love your job, you'll never work a day in your life."
She always told my three sisters and me to use school as
a way to find what we were passionate about. She
encouraged us to learn as much as we could so that we
could find careers that engaged us and that allowed us
to contribute our strengths and talents so that we could
help others. I am so glad that I listened to my mother
and that I became a teacher and an administrator. My
work with the students, staff, and parents at GSCES
allows me to combine my love of learning with my belief
in the importance of serving others.
I am passionate
about my work, but most people who know me would agree
that my family is the most important thing in my life.
When not at The Creek, you will find me with my husband,
Bob, and three adult children because they are my best
friends. My husband is the most incredible man I know.
I call him the "rock" because we can all depend on him
to support us and help us in every way. I am proud of
the work that he does to serve and protect the
community. He is a Detective Sergeant for the
Montgomery County Police Department.
And, like all
mothers, I could go on for hours about my children. You
know one of them as she is a student teacher/paraeducator
at The Creek. Kristin will graduate in May with a
Masters in Education from the University of Maryland.
Our oldest daughter, Katie, was a teacher at Brown
Station Elementary for three years. She now lives in
Florida with her husband and teaches literacy in middle
school. Our youngest, Bobby, is a senior at Towson
University and is studying computer programming. He
wants to become a police officer and hopes to eventually
integrate his computer background into law enforcement
work. I think our children are following our career
paths because they've watched my husband and me
thoroughly enjoy our life's work for 30 years. They've
also used what they learned in school to help find the
careers that are just right for them. This takes me
full-circle and back to my mother's advice!
My family and I
enjoy baseball, the beach, and boating. I especially
enjoy reading informational texts. I rarely read novels
and instead will read anything and everything related to
American history; especially the World War II era. I
think this is because my parents fascinated me with many
stories about their lives growing up in the 30's and
40's. My love of history earned me the only award that
I ever won, which was for being the highest performing
history student at Sherwood High School (in 19......)
I often have difficulty getting my work finished because
I get distracted when I jump from site to site on the
Internet reading about historical figures and events.
My family jokes that when we watch television together,
they have to turn the station quickly past the History
Channel so I won't ask them to stop and watch a program
about President Kennedy or the Civil War! My favorite
sport is dancing...Yes, I consider that a sport! I
absolutely love to dance to songs from the 50's, 60's
and 70's! You will always see me dancing in the gym
whenever Mr. Dorfman plays music!
Thank
you for taking the time to learn more about me. As you
can see, I have been blessed with an incredible family
and with a career that I love! I guess the moral of
this Spotlight is "listen to your mother....she's always
right!"
