"My son is enrolled as a kindergarten (K) student at Germantown Elementary School (GES). Before he started in August 2007 I reviewed the school's test scores and saw that they were improving but was unsure about my son's future success. Since the beginning of the school year until now, I had the chance to see all the "in-house" graphs at each grade showing a constant improvement in all subjects (reading, writing and math). More importantly, I have seen my own son’s progress, which is phenomenal especially considering the fact that he was not fluent in English at the beginning of the school year. As of March 2008, he is now reading @ level 8 (benchmark for K is level 3 & level 5 is the benchmark to enter 1st grade) and he already knows the whole list of 1st grade words. Even though he had reached the K benchmark, they still encouraged him to progress further. I truly believe that Ms. Bryant (GES principal), as well as her skilled and talented teachers, are accountable for the school improvement. Since her arrival five years ago, Ms. Bryant made considerable efforts to improve the school by hiring highly qualified staff, establishing the Parents Advisory Council (PAC), organizing reading workshops for parents and improving student’s behavior. I personally think that it is a matter of time before GES rating/scores give them justice!"
