School History

Galway was opened in December, 1967, in the Calverton area of Silver Spring. Since Calverton is in both Prince George's and Montgomery County, until that time, the students in the area had gone to Fairland or Cloverly.

Since opening, we have been through both growth and attrition and have been as small as 185 and as high as 785. Currently we have 705 students in grades K-5. An addition was opened in 1993 which houses a media center, an art room, a computer lab, 4 classrooms and student bathrooms. The gym was opened in October, 1997.

Galway Pledge

The Galway Pledge articulates the values and beliefs that our school community finds important to instill in the leaders of tomorrow:

We pledge to respect one another, to be trustworthy and fair.  We will care about each other, and be good citizens.  Above all else, I will take responsibility for my actions, in a quest to build a better you…and a better me.
