AMERICAN UNIVERSITY is offering high school students and teachers opportunities to explore the field of communication this summer. Students and teachers may commute or live on campus for these one to four week programs that run June 18 - July 13, 2007. The program is especially designed for students who have an interest in film, journalism, multimedia and communication. Courses include: scriptwriting, video production and non-linear editing, screenwriting, documentary 101, directing, animation, photography, Photoshop, professional news writing, broadcast journalism, weather broadcasting and meteorology, the scandals of Washington, DC, public speaking and college 411. Courses are open to students in and teachers of grades 9-12. There are no prerequisites for the program. Visit www.soc.american.edu/highschool.html. Boyz2Men Program sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Iota Upsilon Lambda Chapter - Boyz2Men is an academic and leadership program for 8th and 9th grade students. The program is held on Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Smithville School and Museum on 811 East Randolph Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904. Boyz2Men will use the history of the African-American Civil Rights struggle, from colonial times to the present day, to reinforce the MCPS 8th and 9th grade social studies curriculum. The program is designed to enhance speaking, writing, and analytical skills. Students will also learn computer literacy and chess. Taught by Howard University Law Professor Harold McDougall, students are welcome to join at any time. Students should bring their most recent copy of their report card.
