My craft is rug making. To make rugs you need: 1. a hook, 2. plenty of yarn, 3. instructions to follow, and 4. a picture to observe from.

An apprentice rug maker needed to have enough education to be able to follow directions and to be able to read them if they were written. The skill was taught from mother to daughter. One had to be able to work well with her/his hands.

This craft was needed because people needed rugs to step on because of the cold floors and to avoid splinters. Also some rugs were used for decoration. The craftperson would like doing this because it made them feel appreciated when people bought them.
