Mikhail Romanov

Mikhail Romanov was the first ruler in the Romanov dynasty, When the zemskii sobor, or the assembly of the land, elected him czar, he was only 16 years old. They thought he would be the best candidate to end the Time of Troubles. The Time of Troubles was a time of chaos and famine.

His coronation took place on July 11, 1613 in Dormition Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. A lot of important people (religious leaders and other leaders) attended.

Before his succession to the throne, he lived with his mother in Domnina, the family estate of the Romanovs. During his reign as Czar he established a unified Russian state, ended internal conflicts and resumed relations with foreign states. He also made many reforms with the army. He was married to Maria Vladimirovna Dolgorukaya, who died on January 7, 1626. Then he married Evdokia Lukianovna Streshneva. He had 10 children with Evdokia.
