Whirligig Beetles

 

The whirligig beetle uses its hind legs for skimming over the water and for diving. Their eyes are divided into two parts. One part sees above the water and one part sees below the water. The adult whirligig beetle is a scavenger. They are about .5 inches. The whirligig gives off a strong odor when caught.
