Forest Oak Middle School Bay Studies Program

Transplanting and Landscaping Project

The eighth grade students of team 8-1 worked very hard under the leadership of Mr. Jay Foster, science teacher, to transplant the front gardens of the school. The yews and liriope are not native species to Maryland. They were moved to the dividers around the parking lot. Sod was removed to accommodate these plants and shrubs. The front beds were planted with flowers and plants native to the area. The sixth grade science classes grew some native flowering plants from seed. These were planted in the new garden around our school sign. We are so proud of our new beds and newly acquired gardening skills.

New beginnings....

Before...

...during...

...and after.

Mr. Foster gathers his merry men...and women.

Hi, hoe, it's off to work we go!

We gather our tools.

Mr. Foster shows his team "how to" move a shrub.

Now, it's our turn...

You mean we have to move ALL of these?

Dig a new hole for a new home.

Team work is what it's all about.

Weight lifting outside the gym...

Back for more...

Put a little muscle into it.

Add water generously!

The overseer, Mr. Foster.

Wow! Look how far we've come today.

Watch that truck. He's bringing more work!

What a difference it makes.

Beautiful!

Labor on. It's mulch time...

Getting it all together, now.

Plants in their new home.

Clean-up is a must.

Finishing touches...

We are proud of our hard work.
