- My Latin name, is Sappidissima.
- I was once the most valuable food source in the Chesapeake Bay.
- I am the largest fish in the clupeid family, in the United States.
- I am a large member of the herring family.
- The adult fish of my species have silvery white on the sides, with greenish, bluish coloration that fades to brown as they migrate through fresh water to spawn.
- I am found along the Atlantic seaboard to Florida.
- I am an important food source for other fish such as bluefish and striped bass.
- I live in the ocean 3-6 years, until ready to reproduce or fertilize eggs.
- I was a harvesting fish in Columbia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
- The female fishes of my species release 100,000 to 600,000 eggs into the water to be fertilized by several male............can't tell!!!!!!
