Chesapeake Bay Critters
The Musical Animal
- I eat algae.
- I hide from high tide in burrows.
- The male waves his claw to attract females.
- We have small, squared bodies.
- I live on sandy beaches or muddy marshes.
- The males have one claw larger than the other.
- We got our name because when the male waves his claw, it looks like he plays this instrument.
- We are poor swimmers and rarely go into the water.
- Eyestalks for both male and female are long and slender.
- I have an "H" shaped depression in the center of the carapace.
