Forest Oak Middle School Bay Studies Program

Bluebird House Project

In April and May, 2001, the Forest Oak Middle School seventh graders on team 7-2 decided to improve our school community by attracting bluebirds to our grounds. We studied bluebirds and their habitats on the Internet. Use our bluebird bookmarks to learn what we did. Our teacher, Ms. Shelly Nicoll wrote a successful grant to fund the project of building the bluebird boxes. The team went to work to build a circuit of bluebird houses surrounding the school.

We cut the wood and now we're making doorways for the bluebirds.

Some assembly required....

This is what we're after.

Weatherproofing many boxes...

Look, Mom!

Installed and ready for occupancy.

Checkout those birds. Is it a bluebird?

Bird watchers in training.

A circuit of new bluebird houses surrounds the school grounds.

Already, we've attracted at least one pair of bluebirds. Mom's sitting on four eggs. We're eagerly awaiting the family of bluebirds!!
