The Medieval War

by Nisha G., Jack B., Kristen M., and Nick C.

To the tune of "The Itsy Bitsy Spider"

here once was an argument between two manors' lords,
Then one kingdom attacked with their swords,
This started a war between the two places,
And you could tell they're frightened by the looks upon their faces.

Fighting and killing everywhere you go,
Blood shed splattered all upon the snow,
The villagers fled to the safety of the castle,
Everyone was fighting including the vassals.

The last evil soldier climbed up the castle gate,
Then they poured the tar and made him fall with hate,
The lord declared "Thou art war no more,"
Then the manor lived peacefully forever more.

The Medieval War

The categories that our nursery rhyme falls under, are Singing Game Rhyme and Verse Stories. This is true because you sing the rhyme to the tune of the "The Itsy Bitsy Spider. " Our rhyme also has many verses.

The history of our nursery rhyme, is that in medieval times many people lived on manors (a self-sufficient community). These manors each had a lord (the leader of the manor.) A lot of the time, lords were jealous of other lords, so many revolts broke out.

To fight for their land, all of the knights and vassals (one step lower than the knights) fought against their enemies.

The castle was a home for the lord and his family, but also to protect all of the people of the manor. All of those who weren't fighting would hide out in the castle.

Their war tactics were very different from modern day tactics. They used hot tar, hot water, bows and arrows, and swords.

Castles were the main target of assaults. If a castle was defeated, then the whole manor would be diminished. The reason the castle was the main target was because it was the main defense of the manor. When the war was over, the manor that won has a huge celebration, to thank those who fought for their land.
