2nd Grade Collages

In Mrs. Bermudez' art class, Mrs. Cantorna, a student teacher from the University of Maryland, and 2nd grade children created collages in the manner of Eric Carle. Eric Carle is a children's picture book author and illustrator who is known for his highly textured collages. Students read and studied Carles book illustrations. Then, they used paint to create visual textures on paper. In addition, children studied Romare Bearden, who is a famous African American artist known for his collage techniques. Finally, young artists cut out a variety of shapes from their dry texture paintings and glued them together to depict a living creature. We shared our art work with one another using new vocabulary words and positive comments.
