Reports to our Fearless Leader From the Big Blue Marble

A Report to the Fearless Leader about Pollution:

A report to the FL. from ETJasmine:

You won't believe what these people have done to their planet! They are polluting the forests, the air, the water and the soil.

Most of the ancient forests that once covered their earth were gradually cut down . This is called clear cutting. Clear cutting forests takes away animal homes & the beauty of their earth.

Did you know that 4/5 of their air is nitrogen & another 1/5 is oxygen? If they didn't have plants they wouldn't have oxygen. Their electric materials cause carbon dioxide which can kill them. Smoke that comes from vehicles becomes smog when it mixes with fog. Without carbon dioxide they wouldn't have plants, but if there is too much carbon dioxide their plants will die.

Sewage & chemicals get into the "water" & pollute it. Oil spills which are another type of pollution are caused by oil ships breaking apart while sailing. 5 MILLION people die a year from drinking polluted water.

Soil pollution is the destruction of the "earth's" thin layer of healthy, productive soil. In some places farmers can't even grow enough food to support the world's people.

Some people who care about the planet are trying to stop pollution, and others just don't care. That is the conclusion of this report from your brave explorer ET Jasmine.

A Report to the Fearless Leader about Weather:

A report to the FL. from ETRosalie:

Dear Fearless Leader,

Greetings! Iım here to tell you about the weather on the Big Blue Marble. Right now here in Silver Spring, Maryland the season is winter and the weather is so cold that you can turn blue. Weıve been having rain. When it snows people try to catch white snowflakes on their tongues. Earth children like snow.

First Iım going to talk about the clouds. Clouds are made of moisture and the moisture is from the water evaporating. There are many kinds of clouds and they are Cumulus, Cirrus, Stratus, Cirrocumulus, Cirrostratus, Nimbostatus, Altostratus, Stratocumulus, Cumulonimbus, and fog. Sometimes clouds can cause storms because the clouds hold the water until they canıt hold any more. When they canıt hold any more moisture rain, sleet, or snow comes out of the clouds. The different kinds of storms are rainstorms, thunderstorms, gales, hurricanes, and tornados.

Second thing Iım going to be talking about about is weather. People predict the weather by telling what kind of weather is coming. They also predict the weather by looking where the fronts form. Good weather is associated with high pressure areas, where air is sinking. It changes when the temperature changes and also when the wind changes. It also changes because new air pushes the old air.

The last thing Iım going to be talking about is everything else I have to say. Temperature changes because it depends on where the sunıs position is around the Big Blue Marble. Every season changes because the temperature changes with the seasons. The variation causes the seasons to change. The earthıs axis is always tilted the same way, 23.5 degrees

I hope you got enough information about the weather on the Big Blue Marble!

Sincerely, ET-Rosalie

A Report to the Fearless Leader about Gravity:

A report to the FL. from ETMark:

Dear Fearless Leader,

As you know, the Big Blue Marble has a thing called gravity. According to the World Book Encylopedia, gravity is a force of attraction that acts between all objects because of their mass--that is the amount of matter they are made of. Gravity depends on how big or small a planet is,the bigger the planet the more gravitational pull it has. Gravity affects people by not letting them float around in the air. These were some facts about gravity.

Here are some more facts about gravity. People needrockets on their ships because gravity will keep their ships on the ground. I cannot jump as high as I can at home because gravity pulls me down to the ground. That was all I could find about gravity.

A Report to the Fearless Leader about Water:

A report to the FL. from ETMonica:

Dear Fearless Leader,

There is a lot of ³water² on earth. Water is a liquid used in many different ways. Water also comes in many different ways. Water comes in rivers, streams, creeks, oceans, seas, lakes, ponds, and other ways that humans invented. Water comes in different ways depending on the temperature. When the temperatures are cold there may be frost, snow, sleet, or hail. When it is cold water will turn into a solid called ice. When it is humid dew will form on plants and other things. Humidity is when the air is moist, or has lots of water in it water can also evaporate, or turn into a gas. If a lot of water turns into gas it is humid. Rain is water that falls from clouds. A cloud is made of water. When a cloud gets heavy it will drop water. that is rain. Snow is frozen rain. All water is made of billions and billions of water molecules. Molecule are microscopic. Water can also be in the form of a bubble. A bubble forms when air goes into water and creates a perfect sphere.

The earth is 70.8% water. This is 139,400,000 sq. miles of water. Every living thing needs water to survive. Plants and animals both need water to survive. If they don`t have water they will die of thirst.

Some water is salty some water is fresh. this is because some water picks up dirt and minerals from rocks and other things. This water is salt water. Other water doesn`t pick up these things. This water is fresh water. In some places fresh and salt water mix together. This is called brackish water.

Water in rivers and oceans are constantly recycled. The only new water on earth is thrown out by volcanos. The heat of the sun turns the water into seas, lakes, and soil to an invisible gas called water vapor. This rises high into the sky were tiny water drops from around dust grains collect to make clouds.

That is my report about water on Earth.

A report to the Fearless Leader about Air:

Dear Fearless Leader,

The air on earth is mostly oxygen and nitrogen. Twenty one percent is oxygen, seventy eight percent is nitrogen, nine tenths percent is argon. there trace gases on earth which equal to one tenth of the air. Trace gases are mainly carbon dioxide and water vapor. Animals use air to breath and plants use air to make food. I hope every thing is fine on Ork. I hope to be back soon.

Very earthly yours,
E.T. George

A Report to the Fearless Leader About Continental Drift and Earthquakes

Dear Fearless Leader,

We are researching about continental drift and earthquakes. There are seven continents on earth. They are called Antarctica, North America(witch we are on now), South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe. The continents were formed when land masses moved. They move about 4 inches per year. About 4 million years ago there was one giant land mass called Pangaea. Later it split into two land masses called Gonwanaland and Luraisa. Luraisa split into North America and Eurasia. Gonwanaland split into South America, India, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica.

Continents move on a thick layer of tile. Tile is a layer of hot rock under the crust but above the core. When it moves the continents move too. The plates can move in three different ways, away from each other, toward each other, or past each other.

Earthquakes are caused by faults in the earth surface. There are many different kinds of faults. One of them is called a transform fault. It is caused when plates slide past one another. The boundary between the two plates is the transform fault. faults occur in weak areas of the earth's rock. As the fracture extends along the fault, blocks of rock on one side of the fault may drop down below the rock on the other side of the fault. Stresses in the earth cause large blocks of rock along a fault to strain. when the stress on the rock becomes great enough, the rock breaks and snaps into a new position, thus causing the shake of an earthquake.

We hope to come back to Ork soon where we can't be clobbered by an earthquake.

Your Messengers,
ET Alexa and ET Stephanie

A Report to the Fearless Leader About Mountains

Dear Fearless Leader,

I have researched on mountains. Mountains are tall, really big piles of rock. Most of them are located near the edges of continents. There are many different kinds of mountains in the earth. These are some kinds of mountains: volcanic, dome, erosion, and fold mountains. For instance, the Appalachian Mountains are kinds of fold mountains. These are formed when two plates meet head-on and their edges crumble just like a table cloth. The Black Hills of South Dakota and Adirondack Mountains in New York are dome mountains. These mountains are formed when forces from the earth lift the crust into a bulge or a dome. The Catskill Mountains in New York are erosion mountains. These are formed from the erosion of a thick pile of sedimentary rock.

Mount Etna in Sicily and Mount Fuji in Japan are volcanic mountains. Heat within the earth may melt some of the plate material and send it to the surface, creating a volcano. Fearless, Leader I have a question for you: What kind mountains do football players like to play football in? Answer: dome mountains.

P.S. I wish to be back at home at Ork

Researcher,
Phuson

A Report to the Fearless Leader About Pollution

Dear Fearless Leader:

I am researching about pollution. Pollution is when you throw things on the
