Our best advisors tell us that the inhabitants of the Big Blue Marble speak many languages. We have sent you to an English speaking area. The English speaking inhabitants of the Big Blue Marble call their planet "Earth" and the materials which are its components "Earth Materials." Your job is to find out about the properties of Earth Materials. We would like to learn about the rocks and minerals on the surface of the planet, but we also want to know about the interior of the planet. We want to know about the liquid. We think the English speakers call it "water." We want to know how those things called mountains were made. We want to know about the gases that surround the planet. We have heard that the inhabitants of the Big Blue Marble are not taking such good care of their Earth Materials; that there is something called pollution. We want to know what pollution means and what it is doing to the Earth Materials.
Forest Knolls is a good place to find information, and a good place to be when you need to learn how to communicate in English. The friendly life forms will show you how to do something called "taking notes" and how to write something called a "hamburger paragraph". Mrs. Fox has also prepared a file of paper and electronic resources for you us use in your research.
There is so much we want to know, and each of you is just one brave explorer. Do not try to do too much. Just pick one of the things we want to learn about and start there. If each of you reports back on a different topic I will get a full report.
