8 th Grade Dance – Thanks Go Out to the FMS Community!
This past weekend’s 8 th grade dance was a huge success! Our sincere and heartfelt thanks go out to the many volunteers who ensured a sensational send-off for the 8 th graders…from the “early bird” crew who took down the after-prom decorations…to the decorating contingent…to the chaperones…to the food and drink servers…and everyone in between – THANKS !
Also, a special thank you to the many members of the FMS community who “answered the call” when we sent out an “ SOS ” for food and beverage. The response was overwhelming!
Happy Summer To All!

Reminders About Attendance
Any student who is absent must bring in a note from a parent/guardian upon return. Any student who arrives at school after the day has officially begun ( 7:50a.m. ) must report to the main office. A parent/guardian must sign the student in or the parent/guardian must supply a note. Notes must include the student’s name, date of absence or lateness, reason for absence or lateness, and a parent/guardian signature. If a student arrives late to school without a written note or parent, a warning will be given, the parent will be contacted, and a detention will be assigned on the third offense.
NEW POLICY ON DIGITAL CAMERAS -- Reminders on Cell Phones & Electronic Devices
DIGITAL CAMERAS- Digital cameras are no longer allowed at school, unless for a special occasion or school project with the approval of teacher or administrator. Electronic devices have become a distraction to the educational process and are often lost, shared, or used inappropriately. Like cell phones, digital cameras should be off and out of site for the entire school day, or they will be subject to confiscation.
CELL PHONES – Middle school students are not permitted to use or display portable communication devices (cell phones) on MCPS middle school campuses or at MCPS sponsored activities during the instructional day, including after-school activities. Students may bring them to school for use after 4:00, but the device must remain off and out of sight during the entire instructional day. The school will not be held responsible for any device that is lost or stolen. If there is an emergency, students may report to the main office and ask to use the office phone. During after-school activities, there is a payphone in the main hallway available for student use. Students will be permitted to use cell phones after 4:00.
IPOD’s & OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES – These popular devices must be off and out of site during the entire instructional day. Please discuss with your child whether it is appropriate to bring these devices to school. Students may listen to music on the bus, for example, but the device must be secured in a locker, off, and out of sight upon arriving to school. These valuable devices are often misplaced, shared, or lost by adolescents. The school will not be held responsible for electronic devices that are lost or stolen.
