F.A.C.S Resources - Family and Consumer Science

Family and Consumer Science (F.A.C.S), promotes the linkage of academic skills and life skills to bring meaning and practical understanding to the middle school learner.  Hands on, minds on!  The F.A.C.S classroom is a place where thinking and reasoned decision making are everyday occurrences, where students gather and evaluate information, make choices about actions to take in real-life situations and judge their decisions in light of what is in the best interest of themselves, their family, and society.

The goal of the middle school Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum is to prepare students for their roles as members of families and society through problem based learning experiences.  It is a comprehensive, integrated, and experience-based program which addresses the concerns of personal and family living.  Students acquire the requisite knowledge and develop functional skills regarding resource management, living environments, individual, child and family development, nutrition and food and textiles that enable them to make decisions that enhance the quality of their lives.

On Thursday, March 2 we celebrated Read Across America in the FACS classes.  This is a national recognition to focus on the importance of reading and is connected with Dr. Suess' birthday. We made green eggs and ham in the labs and Mr. Murphy came into one of the 7th grade classes to speak about his personal love of reading.  Click here for pictures.
