Club Descriptions

Homework Club:  Students who desire help with academic homework assignments or to those who would like a quiet setting to complete their homework.  Students must come with homework.  Students must sign up in advance of each meeting day and sign-up sheets are posted in the cafeteria.   Class size is limited to 22 students Tuesdays & Thursdays and the extracurricular fee is not required.   Sponsors:  Mrs. Marenah & Ms. Kozma

Math On Call:  "Hello. Hello. Is anyone out there? I need help. You see, I have this math problem that I can't figure out."  If this has ever happened to you, then come to Math on Call after school to get a jump on nightly homework, ask questions, and even work with a friend. Math On Call is open to all FMS math students on a walk-in basis.   Sponsor:   Mrs. Hanlon every Tuesday & Mrs. Green every other Wednesday (schedule will be posted)

Leo Club:  Students with an interest in community service are welcome.  The Lions Club established the club in an effort to bring youth into community service through their school.  The club is dedicated to helping the community by engaging students in various community service projects.  Students will receive student service learning hours for participating in projects.  Tuesdays, Sponsors:  Ms. Mylonas & Mrs. Orzel,

School Newspaper:  For students interested in writing and reporting.  Students should be able to accept an assignment and complete it within a time frame.  The newspaper staff generates articles, gathers student opinions, offers advice, and generally writes about topics of interest to middle school students.  Articles and graphics are assembled in a printed newspaper each marking period and distributed to the student body.  Wednesdays, Sponsor:  Mrs. Rose, room 3

STEP Team:  Step is a combination of organized dancing, stomping, and clapping to a rhythm.  Step helps students to develop new communication skills, patience, coordination, and a strong discipline for performing.  Students also learn the importance of teamwork.  Students are required to attend practices and perform at two home basketball games and a spring county competition.  The purchase of a T-shirt may be required. Sponsor:   Ms. Butler, Thursdays, cafeteria

Student Government Association (SGA):  Involvement in activities that promote civic duty for the FMS community, such as canned food drive, fundraisers, and dance.  An election by peers to represent students in SGA takes place early fall in world studies classes.  Student members may attend meetings outside FMS.   An application is required for students not already elected as delegates.  Application forms are available in the main hall.  Tuesdays, Sponsor:   Ms. Lazarick, room 15

Yearbook:  Students interested in creating the annual Farquhar yearbook assist with designing layouts, taking pictures, coming up with creative ideas, and advertising the yearbook sale.  Wednesdays, Sponsor:  Mrs. Grandin & Ms. Lazarick, room 26

Drama Club: The drama club will meet for 4 sessions in October and November. During our meetings, we will focus on preparing for the spring play. This includes workshops on how to audition, tips for acting, investigating the secret lives of the tech crew, and generally becoming comfortable with performing in front of peers. Thursdays, Sponsor: Ms. Lorenz

Spring Play:  The spring play will occur at the end of April. Auditions will be in December, and rehearsals will run from December up through performances. While it is a lot of work, it is also a lot of fun. There are opportunities to both act in the play and to participate in the tech crew.  Sponsor: Ms. Lorenz

Board Game Club: Do you like hanging out with your friends and play cards or board games, chatting and eating?  Well then we have the club for you.  Come on out and play your favorite game or learn a new one.  All you have to do is show up with your snacks and friends.  See you there!  Wednesdays, Sponsor: Ms. Ladd

Knitting Club: Do you know what the latest Hollywood Craze is?  KNITTING!  All the stars are doing it and you too can get in on the fun.  Farquhar is proud to announce that we have a knitting club.  You can learn to knit or if you already know how you can make something for yourself or earn service hours by knitting baby blankets for hospitals and/or homeless shelters.  Come on out and join the fun.  Tuesdays, Sponsor: Ms. Ladd

Wii Club: Want to spend time competing in sports from the comfort of your own classroom?  Then join the Wii Club!  Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Wii sport activities and compete against each other!  Wednesday, September to December, Sponsor: Ms. Kozma

Scrap Booking: Would you like to design your own personalized cards for special occasions or create a scrapbook using your photos?  Using simple materials and your imagination, you can make cards or scrapbooks using photos and create stories to share.  Come and join your friends and unleash your creativity by joining the Scrapbooking Club. Thursday, October to November, Sponsor: Mrs. Hopkins

Spanish Club: HOLA!  This club is for anyone interested in Spanish or for anyone who wants some extra help in Spanish.  This is an awesome place to get extra help on your homework from fellow students who can explain things to you in a way that your teachers don’t.  It’s also an informal place to come listen to Spanish music and videos, have a chance to practice your Spanish with other students in fun ways, or eat Latin American food. Tuesdays, Sponsor: Mrs. Stanton-Brand & Mr. Dworin

SERT/Green Club: The Green Club will promote sustainable practices at Farquhar Middle school through school wide recycling programs, energy conservation practices, growing community gardens in the courtyards, picking up trash on the school grounds, participating in countywide initiatives and contests and other positive environmental practices.   Thursdays, September to December, Sponsor: Mrs. Barbera

Project Change: This club is for anyone who has the desire to give back and connect to our community.  Ensure you have a voice and play a significant role in making our community the best it can be! Students gain a better understanding of Student Service Learning from multiple perspectives and get a first-hand look at volunteering. Tuesdays, October to December, Sponsor: Ms. Jones

Novel Nails and Toes: Bring your supplies to decorate your nails and/or toes!  Have a friend sign up to help you paint! (one hand is always easier than the other!) Share creative ideas, decorating, nail painting prowess and just laugh and have fun! Tuesdays, October to November, Sponsor: Mrs. Finan

Math Team: Are you fantastic at math?  Want to show off your skills?  The Math Team will meet weekly after school to prepare for math competitions.  We will participate in four county competitions at other local middle schools. Wednesdays, Sponsor: Ms. Harmon.
