Fallsmead Counseling Program
The counseling program in our school is available to help students, parents and teachers develop positive learning experiences. Several units are covered in addition to student service standards that are promoted to enhance the child’s learning experience.
The student service standards are as follows:
Personal Development
- Students will demonstrate attitudes, knowledge, skills and behaviors to help them understand themselves and develop self-respect.
- Students will demonstrate making decisions, setting goals and taking necessary actions to achieve goals.
- Students will demonstrate perseverance and resiliency to adapt to and cope with change and other life challenges.
- Students will demonstrate an awareness of the relationship between cognition, emotion and behavior and be able to express emotions appropriately.
Academic Development
- Students will demonstrate that they can apply study skills, effort and persistence necessary for academic achievement.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Interpersonal Development
- Students will be accountable for the consequences of their behavior.
- Students will demonstrate effective verbal/non-verbal communication skills.
- Students will demonstrate skill in managing and resolving conflicts with peers and adults.
- Students will demonstrate understanding and respect for different cultures. lifestyles, attitudes and abilities.
Career Development
- Students will demonstrate awareness of interests in relation to careers.
- Students will explore various careers.
- Students will demonstrate career-planning skills.
- Students will investigate the skills and perquisites needed for identified career choices.
All classroom units follow one of these student service standards.
