Mission Statement: Every child will be given the tools to lead a physically active life through learning movement concepts and participating in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities in a comfortable, and productive environment.

Sneaker Days: Please remind your child to wear his or her athletic shoes on the day they have physical education class. Thank you!

The Program: Our program focuses on three (3) major areas:
#1. Skill Themes: Skill themes are movements that can be performed. These include kicking, throwing, striking, rolling, skipping, volleying and dribbling.
#2. Movement Concepts: Movement concepts describe how to perform the skill themes. These include directions (left/right), levels (high/medium/low), pathways (curved/straight/zigzag), and relationships with objects (over/under).
#3. Wellness Concepts: A variety of wellness concepts are taught throughout the year and include physical fitness, safety, nutrition, goal setting, personal and social responsibility, and emotional health.

Grading:
Physical Education in Montgomery County Public Schools has adopted a standards based curriculum for the first, second and third grades. Here at Fairland, all students in grades 1-5 will need to meet grade level criteria to receive an "O" for each marking period. During each marking period there will be at least three essential learnings per grade level that students will study, practice and then demonstrate utilizing psychomotor and cognitive assessments.
O = Outstanding
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs Improvement
