Boys Cross Country Charges at State Meet
Battling injury, illness and wet, treacherous conditions, the Einstein boys cross country team grabbed 9th place out of 23 teams at the 3A State Cross Country Championship on Nov. 14 in Parkton, improving on its 11th place finish in 2008. The team missed placing eighth in the meet by just four points.
The Titans were led by the dynamic freshmen duo of Nick Simpson and Ben Withbroe, who medaled by taking 11th place and 23rd places respectively. They were the two fastest freshmen in the entire state championship meet.
Einstein's third runner was junior Andrew Ceruzzi, who placed 40th despite slipping and falling while negotiating the notorious "dip" along the tough championship course at Hereford High School in Baltimore County. Senior Sam Rivers, running in his last cross country meet as a Titan, put in a gritty performance, placing 57th.
The Einstein team included sophomore Peter Giblin, who came in 113th. Junior Ziv Dreyfuss placed 152nd, and sophomore Ryan Henderson, a last-second replacement for injured Zeke Rogers, placed 165th to complete the slate of Titans competing in the championship.
The boys team traveled to the state championship after finishing fourth in the Nov. 5 3A West Region Meet
Congratulations to the boys, and Coaches Eric DaSilva and Kate Ligon on a great season!
