Montgomery County Wrestling Tournament
The report from Coach Adrian Baez: The Einstein Titan Wrestling team visited Blair High School for the county wrestling tournament Feb. 15-16. We wrestled very well to represent our Einstein wrestling tradition in a prime competition of this caliber. Miriam Stevens (103 lbs.) defeated Nick Norris of Northwood handily and advanced to wrestle Greg Holland from Quince Orchard and Ryan Sach of Magruder in tough loss matches.
Freshman Chris Iglesias (119 lbs.) also wrestled valiantly in a loss to O. Laughner from Sherwood. Adam Zamostny wrestled in his first county championship as a ninth grader. His match in the 152-lb. class was tough. Though he did not win his match, he showed strength and confidence in facing his opponent M. Mendis from Springbrook.
Jorge Villatoro was the highlight of the day as he wrestled through the ranks of county wrestlers. He defeated Scher from Paint Branch, Saturno from Blair, and Wills from Quince Orchard before falling to Pereira from B-CC. Villatoro took third place in his weight class in the tournament. Outstanding! Travis Morris also wrestled in the 135-lb. class. Despite having a rough start, losing to D. Nelson of Seneca Valley in his first match, he recovered by winning his second match against D. Tzamaras of Wooton. In the quarterfinal, Travel faced J. Tritell of Whitman, and lost in a hard-fought match that went all the way to the end before falling.
We missed the presence of Nick Delcroix (130 lbs.), Gamliel Sassoon (140 lbs.) and Andres Rocha (160 lbs.) due to injuries. Their camaraderie on the team was a great positive note to our Titan wrestling team this year. We hope they get well soon!
On behalf of Coach Hill and myself, Coach Baez, we want to congratulate the brave effort put forth by all our wrestlers to finish our Titan wrestling season off with a great showing. We hope Travis Morris and Jorge Villatoro do well in the upcoming regional tournament, for which they qualified, on March 5-6. Good luck, and go Titan Wrestling!

The Titan wrestling team battled powerhouse state champion Sherwood yesterday. In a difficult team match we lost to the Warriors by a score of 76-3. The silver lining in this dark cloud was Jorge Villatoro’s win by decision to A. Mueck (8-5). There was more effort on the part of our Titan wrestlers to outlast our opponents. Stay alert to more info on this weekend’s Bulldog Duals Tournament.

Einstein JV at Gaithersburg JV Tournament
JV Wrestlers Score Success at Tournament
On Feb. 14, Angel Enamorado, Shaun Flynn, Matt Jones, Nebi Mohammed and Zaid Alfalahi all participated in the JV Wrestling Tournament at Gaithersburg High School.
Matt Jones and Nebi Mohammed each earned two victories apiece to advance to the third round before being eliminated. The other wrestlers went out early, but earned valuable mat time. It was the Titans' best finish at the JV tournament in three years.
The team's ability to field a JV squad bodes well for the continued rise of Titan wrestling. But the young Titans will need to build on each small success to replace this year's nine graduating seniors.
