Einstein vs Paint Branch 7 p.m.

Senior Night Brings Big Win

Three Titans scored their first goals of the season Wednsday night as Einstein romped to a 6-1 boys soccer victory over Paint Branch.
Junior Merlin Ventura, senior Malcolm Mulong and junior Mickey Hagos all had breakthrough goals for the Titans, who got extended playing time for their entire roster on Senior Night.
It was a senior who started the scoring, as Jason Carcamo headed home a shot off a corner kick. Elusive junior Oscar Vargas added a pair to complete the scoring stats.
The six-goal outburst was the Titans' highest scoring match of the season. The Panthers, who play a tough 4A schedule, lost 5-1 earlier to powerful Northwest, which is ranked in The Washington Post's Top Ten. The Titans' big win shows their potential as they head into the playoffs late next week.
The victory also demonstrated the heart of the Titan players, who entered the game after a tough 5-2 defeat at Quince Orchard last week.
Next up for Einstein is a road game at Springbrook on Fri., Oct. 23 and the regular season finale vs Walter Johnson on Tues., Oct. 27 at Titan Stadium.

Titans Caged By Cougars

Quince Orchard struck for two early goals, and the Titans played catch-up all night before falling 5-2 on Tues., Oct. 14.
The Cougars' speedy forwards got behind the Titan defense twice in the opening minutes to build an early lead. Trailing 3-0 midway through the half, Einstein struck back on goals by senior Jason Carcamo and junior Oscar Vargas. Einstein made a bid to tie before halftime, but the Cougar defense cleared a shot of the line and ended the rally.
The second half was all Cougars, who found the net with two more goals for the home field victory.

Einstein at Northwood 7 p.m.

Gladiators Conquer Titans

The Titan varsity boys soccer team gave highly-ranked Northwood all it could handle Thursday, Oct. 8 before falling 3-1 on the Gladiator field.
Junior Kevin Peterson pounded home a pass from freshman Marcos Moradel to give Einstein an early 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, but the Gladiators came back to earn a 1-1 halftime tie. Although Northwood took a 2-1 lead in the second half, the Titans were never out of the game. A late Northwood goal, scored as the Titans pressed up in the final two minutes, bloated the score to 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper Michael Giglio was busy throughout the night. Giglio was credited with 11 saves.

Einstein vs Blake 7 p.m.

Blake Bengals Claw Titans

After a strong first half that produced a 1-0 lead and a dominating edge in possession, the Einstein varsity boys soccer team fell flat in the second, losing 2-1 to Blake Tues., Oct. 6 at Titans Stadium.
Just as they had against Rockville a week earlier, the Titans controlled play early. They took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jason Carcamo and constantly buzzed the Bengal net. A second goal that appeared to give them a 2-0 lead was waved off on a controversial offside call.
The chemistry vanished in the second half as Einstein mustered few offensive chances and was outscored 2-0. Blake tied the score on a free kick, and got the winner on a penalty kick. The Titans played the final minutes one player down.
Next up for the Titans is highly rated Northwood on Oct. 8 at the Gladiators field.

Rams Come From Behind Against Titans

Rockville scored twice in a six-minute span in the second half, rallying past the Titans 2-1 in varsity boys soccer action on Sept. 29 at the Rams' field.
The Titans led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Carlos Moradel and had many other scoring opportunities as they dominated early play and pressed hard late. Einstein put nine shots on net and several more off the crossbar.

Titans Rally to Beat Wheaton

Despite playing one man down for most of the second half, the Einstein varsity boys soccer team rallied to beat rival Wheaton 3-2 in overtime Sept. 25 on the Knights' home field.
Coming off a heart-breaking, last-minute loss to Kennedy earlier in the week, the Titans needed something dramatic to turn their fortunes around.
They got their first good sign late in the first half when captain Jason Carcamo nailed a 30-yard free kick over the hands of the Knights keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Things turned gloomy minutes into the second half when Carcamo, the senior leader of the Titans defense, was red-carded. Playing 10 vs 11 men, Einstein fell behind 2-1. But the defense, led by seniors Glenn Pastel and keeper Michael Giglio, stiffened. The Titans got the break they needed with about three minutes left to play. Diego Hernandez broke down the left wing and fired a low shot toward the far post to score and tie the match.
In overtime, elusive junior Oscar Vargas left defenders baffled as he worked the right side and slid a pass to freshman Marcos Moradel for the winning goal.
The fun continued, as most varsity players stayed in the stands and cheered on the Titan girls, who dominated Wheaton 3-0 for the varsity sweep.

Kennedy Shoots Down Titans

BSoccer_Kennedy2009

A tough, last-minute, shot-off-the-post by a Kennedy player lifted the Cavaliers past the Titans varsity boys soccer team in a Sept. 23 match at Titan Field.
Einstein led 1-0 on a goal by Nata Diaz before the Cavaliers were awarded and converted a penalty kick. The Titans dominated the game in the second half, but fell when Kennedy received a short-range free kick. The ball dinged in off the post with 40 seconds left to play to give the Cavaliers the 2-1 edge.

Einstein at Seneca Valley 5:30 p.m.

Eagles Fly Past Titans

Seneca Valley scored once in each half, while keeping the ball out of the back of its own net as the Screaming Eagles defeated the Titan boys varsity soccer team 2-0 Mon., Sept. 14 in Germantown.
Einstein, which lost junior Victor Benitez to an injury in his first game as a Titan, is now off until Sept. 23 when Kennedy comes to Titan Field stadium.

9/11/09
Einstein vs Watkins Mill 7 p.m.

Titans Strong Second Half Tops Watkins Mill

The Einstein varsity boys soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit with four straight goals on Fri., Sept. 11 as the Titans beat Watkins Mill, 4-2.
The Titans (1-1) cranked it up early in the second half as junior Kevin Peterson elevated over a Watkins Mill defender and headed home a perfect cross from freshman Marcos Moradel. That duo reversed roles minutes later, and Moradel blasted in a Peterson flick. Junior Oscar Vargas, who gave the Wolverines defense fits all night, added a goal and senior Jason Carcamo, whose clearance off the line saved a potential Watkins Mill score, added the Titans' final goal.
Watkins Mill closed the score to 4-2, but the Titans finished strong to close out the victory.
From senior Michael Giglio and on up the field, Coach Adrian Baez' squad showed improved play throughout, something the Titans will look to build on as they hit the road Monday for a divisional game at Seneca Valley.
The Titans JV, which tied Damascus in its opener, fell 3-0 to the Wolverines.

Einstein vs Damascus 7 p.m.

Titans Drop Opener to Damascus

The Einstein boys varsity soccer team fell 4-0 to Damascus in its season opener Wed., Sept. 9.
The Titans started strong, applying a lot of early pressure on the Hornets. They controlled the play in the Damascus end but came up empty against a Damascus defense, which already had a game -- and a shutout -- under its belt.
The Hornets, 2-0, capitalized on a couple of rare first half intrusions into Titan territory for two late goals and added another pair in the second.

Titans Get Going With a Win

The Einstein boys varsity soccer team visited crosstown rival Kennedy High School in the rescheduled season opener on Thursday and came home with a 1-0 victory.
Both teams threatened repeatedly to score, but the game's lone goal came late, with just minutes left to play, on a kick by junior Daniel Umana-Abarca.
The Titans were able to hold the Cavaliers scoreless on the strength of tough goaltending by junior Michael Giglio and his defensive wall -- seniors Alec Anderson and Dennis Orellana, and junior Glenn Pastel.
