Eastern Middle School Incoming 6 th Grade Summer Tours 2018

The faculty and staff at Eastern Middle School  are very excited about meeting our incoming class of sixth graders.  In order to help new students feel at home at Eastern as soon as possible, we will hold a series of two-hour tours during the summer months.  These tours are FREE; however, no transportation will be provided . Please make every effort to have your student come in for one of the tours - it will be a big help to them once school starts.

During the tour students will explore the building and have the opportunity to learn their way around the halls, computer labs, gymnasium, locker rooms, cafeteria, counseling office, health room and main office.  Students will participate in team building activities in order to get to know new classmates and be able to practice opening lockers.  Students will have the opportunity to use school computers to view the EMS website.  Additionally, we will discuss our Outdoor Education program, extra-curricular activities and the many experiences available to Eastern students.  Although the tours are for students, an administrator will be on hand for the first hour of each session to answer parent questions. In order to accommodate as many students as possible we will be offering eight dates:

On the day of the tour, students should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start time. (9:15 or 12:00 p.m.)  Students should be picked up at the end of orientation in the front of the school, (Franklin Ave. circle) - There is limited student supervision after the session ends, so please be sure to pick your student up promptly at the ending time.

These tours are not the only orientation to Eastern that we will be offering, but are simply an opportunity for students become more comfortable with the facilities and key staff and to help with the elementary to middle school transition.  On Thursday, August 30 th , Eastern will also host all new students to the new-year orientation where students will be provided with their schedule and be able to meet all of their new teachers.  You will receive a letter with more information regarding this event later in the summer.  We want your student to take advantage of both opportunities, because we want them to feel at home on the very first day of school and all year long.

Please call the main office (301.650.6650) to schedule your child for one of the eight summer orientations offered.
