Maryland Measure of Student Technology Literacy (MMSTL)

For the second time, Grade 7 students in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will take the Maryland Measure of Student Technology Literacy (MMSTL) between November 30 and
December 4, 2009.  This measure is an online, Web-based tool that blends multiple choice questions and interactive performance-based items.  It is designed to be completed in one 40-minute class period and is untimed.  

Results of the measurement are NOT for individual student accountability, but will give schools, the district office, and the state a snapshot of where we are with regard to student technology literacy.  Scores will not be placed on report cards or high school transcripts.  The school results do not affect Adequate Yearly Progress since it is a “measure of literacy” and not a high stakes assessment.

One of the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is to ensure that every student has the technology skills needed to succeed in school and in their future lives.  By June 2010, all states are required to report to the U.S. Department of Education the number of students who have met this goal.

We also recognize the importance of this measure to help us ensure all students have the technology skills they need, and that our schools have teachers and administrators that have the knowledge and skills to inform and deliver quality instruction.

Por segunda vez, los estudiantes del Grado 7 de Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) estarán tomando el examen Maryland Measure of Student Technology Literacy (MMSTL), entre el 30 de noviembre y el 4 de diciembre de 2009.  Este es un instrumento con base en el Internet y se toma por computadora; el instrumento combina preguntas de selección múltiple y partes interactivas basadas en rendimiento.  Está diseñado a ser completado dentro de un sólo período de clase de 40 minutos y sin medición de tiempo de ejecución. 

Los resultados de este instrumento NO cuentan como responsabilidad individual del estudiante, pero ofrecen a las escuelas, a la oficina regional y al estado un bosquejo de dónde estamos situados en cuanto a los conocimientos tecnológicos de los estudiantes.  Los puntajes no serán indicados ni en los boletines de calificación ni en los certificados de estudios secundarios.  Los resultados de la escuela no afectan el Progreso Anual Adecuado (Anual Yearly Progress), ya que el instrumento "mide conocimientos" y no es una evaluación de vital importancia.

Uno de los objetivos de No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Qué Ningún Niño Se Quede Atrás) es asegurar que todos los estudiantes tengan las destrezas necesarias para triunfar en la escuela y en vida futura.  Para junio de 2010, U.S. Department of Education exige que todos los estados de la nación reporten el número de estudiantes que han cumplido este objetivo. 

También reconocemos la importancia de este instrumento para ayudarnos a garantizar que todos los estudiantes posean las destrezas que necesitan, y que nuestras escuelas cuenten con maestros y administradores con los conocimientos y destrezas necesarias para poder informar y para impartir enseñanza de calidad.
