Hello and welcome back to our classroom homepage!  Thank you for keeping the communication between home and school open.  On the homepage, you will find your child's nightly homework assignments, as well as long-term projects.

Mission Statement

We, the rockin' awesome superstars of Ms. Schwartzbeck's 5th grade class will become prepared for 6th grade and the rest of our lives.  We will achieve our goals by working together, listening to our teacher, and always doing our best work in class.  We will accomplish anything, if we try.

Long Term Assignments

Long Term Assignments section was last updated Wednesday, November 18, 2009.

In addition to long term assignments and projects, suggested schedules are listed here for the Weekly Reader and Spelling activities. New Weekly Readers are assigned each Monday. Spelling lists change biweekly.

Weekly Reader
Weekly Reader and activities are due every Friday! Suggested schedule:

  • Monday - backpack, read, re-read, and highlight.
  • Tuesday - answer questions on the back of the Weekly Reader.
  • Wednesday - do the accompanying handouts.
  • Thursday - write the BCR.

Spelling
Thanksgiving spelling packets and tests are due on Friday, November 20, 2009.  Bring unstapled packet to school on Friday. Packet with test will be stapled in school. Packet should include:

  • Cover sheet with name (typed or done prior to school on Friday with a parent signature)
  • Three activities (recommended that students do one activity per night Mon-Wed.)
  • Pre-test with parent's signature (normally done Thursday night.)

Book Report
Students are to select a historical fiction book.  After reading the book, they should complete the "sandwich" and assemble it appropriately.  See rubric for details and below for upcoming due dates.

  • Book read by Friday, November 20, 2009
  • Begin sandwich
  • Sandwich due Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Book Making Project
Students read The Three Little Pigs edited by Eve Morel.  They will assemble a book to demonstrate their knowledge of the elements of plot.  It is encouraged that they use the chart to help them identify the elements of plot.  See rubric for details. 

  • Most of this project will be done in school one step at a time.
  • Final due Monday, November 23, 2009
