Forty-eight DuFief students, 21 adult volunteers and two middle school helpers participated in a PTA-sponsored community service project on May 15, 2003. The project was for the Gaithersburg Meals On Wheels, Inc. program whose mission is to provide nourishing meals to homebound persons (regardless of age, race or financial status), who are unable to prepare their own meals.

Following the introduction, the students created decorative cards and colorful, tissue paper flowers for local Meals recipients. The cheerful greetings and flowers, along with a small bag of a healthy snack mix (ingredients donated by Whole Foods Market) were delivered to Gaithersburg Meals on Wheels, Inc for distribution to area residents. The children learned a lot about helping others and about the importance of brightening someone’s day.
