The Choice process has two rounds. The first round is for Grade 8 students who reside in the DCC attendance area. Round 2 is for students who did not get their first choice in Round 1, new students to the DCC, and students on transfer into a DCC middle school.
September:
> Publication of DCC newsletter
> Information mailed home to Grade 8 parents
October:
> Evening information meetings at each of the five high schools for Grade 8 students/parents in various languages
November:
> High school open houses
> Students receive Choice forms (Round 1 of Choice process) in the mail
December:
> Non-MCPS parent/student enrollment meetings
> Completed Choice forms returned to MS counselor by December 7
February:
> Round 1 school assignment mailed to 8th grade students
> High school registration information meeting night for Grade 8 students and parents
> Change of Choice forms available in counseling office for current grades 9, 10, 11 by end of month
March:
> Change of Choice deadline March 14
> Round 2 Deadline March 14 for those students who did not receive first choice in Round 1, transfer students, and students new to DCC following Round 1

April:
> Round 2 school assignment mailed to Grade 8 students
May:
> Appeals: 1st level, DCC office
