Scooter City

The Diamond Elementary gymnasium was turned into Scooter City in October. Students were encouraged to bring a big imagination and strong leg muscles to Scooter City. Scooters (cars) were driven on roads, complete with traffic signs. There were parking spots for stops at areas of interest such as the grocery store, the hospital, Subway, etc. The Scooter City theme connected to real life situations for our students. Students used turn signals, assumed responsibilities such as putting children in safety seats, being safe and courteous drivers, obeying traffic signals, reading signs, and working together for a common cause in our city. Students in fourth and fifth grades made vanity license plates for their cars, while lower grade classes had a driver’s license. This encouraged students to use creativity, thinking skills and apply this to real life situations.  Above all, students worked out their quadriceps, improved their balance, and used pathways and directions in our Scooter City.
