FALL AWARDS CEREMONY -- We will be holding our annual Fall Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, October 24th, from 1:45 – 2:45 in the auditorium. We will be honoring our AP Scholars, National Merit Scholars, and Honor Societies Inductees. Students should be receiving letters notifying them if they will be receiving an award. Families are invited to attend the ceremony. A listing of names/awards will also be posted on the windows of the Main Office.

Attn: Juniors & Seniors: There will be an informational meeting about the Montgomery College Spring 2018 classes taught at Damascus HS on Wed, Oct 25 at lunch in the Career Center. Please come by to hear about details and have all your questions answered.

Any senior boy interested in participating in this school year’s Mr. Damascus, please see Ms. V in room 231 by Nov. 1st.

THEATRE -- “Children’s Theatre is coming to Damascus HS! This Saturday, October 21 at 10am, the Drama Club presents The Velveteen Rabbit. Admission for the show is $5 for children ages 3-11. For everyone else, it’s free. The show lasts between 30 and 40 minutes and is perfect for the little ones.”

DRAMA -- “The Damascus Drama Club presents The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 Thursday 10/26, Friday 10/27 and Saturday 10/28. Admission is $5 and all shows are at 7pm. Come out and try to figure out who is the Backdoor Slasher!”

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB -- is looking for new members. If you are interested in being involved with the Environmental club, please stop by room 151 or email Mr. Hyman.

GOVERNMENT -- Are you a Senior who is interested in government and wants to learn more about the Maryland state government? Are you interested in leadership or in government participation? Do you think it would be smart to meet some State Legislators who could write a great reference for you and help your career along? If so, see Mr. Mosier in room # 253 for more information about applying to be a Page in the General Assembly.

HOMEWORK HOTLINE LIVE -- is back on TV! Get free, after-school homework help from MCPS teachers by calling, or submitting a question online, to Homework Hotline Live at 301-279-3234 or go to Ask H-H-L dot org. Or check out the new Homework Hotline Live phone app! Watch teachers address your homework questions live on MCPS-TV from 4:30 to 6 pm, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays, or get online help from 6 to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday. ACTIVITY BUS – The activity bus will run every Wednesday and Thursday (except on early release days) beginning September 13, 2017 through May, 2018. Pick up is in front of the school by the flagpole at 4:30.

Sign Ups: Students are to sign up no later than October 24th, 2017 by 3:00 p.m.
Information: The ACES Coaches are providing a program for students upon arrival to the fair which will enhance the college fair and college exploration experience as well.

PLEASE NOTE: Students are to sign up on their Naviance/Succeed Program as soon as possible, then pick up a permission form packet from Mr. Martin in room 133.

ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery) will take place on October 27th starting at 7:45 in room 133 (career center). Interested students are to sign up on their Naviance/Succeed Program as soon as possible then pick up a parent permission form from Mr. Martin. Once the permission form is returned then students pick up a packet from Mr. Martin in the career center. What is the ASVAB? It is a multi-aptitude test battery that helps in identifying different skills and competencies. It consists of eight short individual tests covering General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop information, and Mechanical Comprehension. Not only do you receive scores on each of these individual tests, you also receive the results combined to yield three career exploration scores: Verbal Skills, Math Skills, and Science and Technical Skills. The ASVAB test results provide a snapshot of current knowledge and skills. These scores can be compared with the educational or job requirements for occupations of interest to students.

REAL FOOD FESTIVAL -- Come to Real Food for Kids- Montgomery’s Real Food Festival on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm in Bethesda! The Real Food Festival will feature a chef-led student-team competition to create a delicious, healthy, school lunch entrée. Students will then get to taste test the different entrees and vote on their favorite dish to choose the winner. Free t-shirts for the kids participating in cooking teams (ages 10 and up) if you sign up by Oct. 13th at 4:00 p.m. There will also be a variety of workshops for kids and parents on cooking, nutrition, mindfulness and other wellness topics. The festival will also have tables from local restaurants sampling healthy food. Come join us for a day of family fun. More details on the workshops and tickets are in the link below.
