Humanities 6 Families:

Humanities grade 6 students will be presenting "My Vision of Utopia" in an art gallery forum. This culmination of their study of utopia will be held in the all-purpose room (cafeteria) after school on Thursday, December 18th, from 3:00 - 4:30. Students will present their works of art and explain their artistic choices to peers and parents.

Volunteers are needed to provide light refreshments after the gallery - cookies and "Sunny D" work well - as well as set up, serve and clean up. Please contact Mr. Fleming if you can assist. This is a wonderful event. We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you for your continued support. (John_S_Fleming@mcpsmd.org)

All Families:

Roberto Clemente MS with support of the PTSA has established 5 new Parent Advisory Committees. There are groups for 6th, 7th, 8th, Center, and special needs children consisting of parents from the many neighborhood communities involved with Roberto Clemente Middle School. The purpose of the 5 committees is to meet regularly with school leaders to provide input, insight, and suggestions to the normal operations of the organization. In addition, the committees provide critical input on the development of the School Improvement Plan, ensuring that the collaborative effort of key stakeholders is well represented. Parents may contact the committee to discuss questions and/or concerns that pertain to the community at large. Personal issues should always be initially directed to school staff.

In order to fulfill our mission, we need your help. We are looking for feedback from you about things that Roberto Clemente MS could be doing to make the center program better as well as what is currently going well. You can provide feedback by going to the Robert Clemente MS Website and click on the link for the Parent Advisory Committee.

You may also go directly to the Clemente Feedback Form. The first meeting of the Roberto Clemente Highly Gifted Center Parent Advisory Group will be on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 7pm. All parents with an interest in improving the Highly Gifted Program are encouraged to attend. This meeting will be an important first step in identifying issues to be addressed and working to set the committee's priorities. We would like to have parents from each program and grade level represented at the meeting. We especially need 8th grade parents and Math/Science Program parents to agree to be on the committee.

Future meetings are currently scheduled for the second Thursday of the month. We look forward to hearing from you.

The Roberto Clemente Middle School Center Program offers two rigorous programs of academic study to highly gifted students from the upper portion of Montgomery County. Both programs feature an interdisciplinary approach in multiple subject areas. Students may apply to both programs, but may only participate in one.

Student Qualities

The two center programs are designed for highly able students who desire to be further challenged academically and are ready to be actively involved in their own learning with a group of their intellectual peers. Students in both programs exhibit a high level of curiosity, analytical thinking, and imagination.
