- Students in Ms. Evans' first period Center World Studies class created board games based on the research they completed on the first five dynasties of China. Student presented the games as part of their assessment and then took turns testing their knowledge about ancient China by playing their classmate's games.

- The county executive will have 6 budget forums to hear input from residents on FY 09 operating budget priorities.
These will be run by his previous town hall meetings -- you show up, raise your hand, and speak into the mic for a few
minutes. No need to sign up in advance. Please alert all of those who support us during the budget process to attend
these forums and participate. It's important that support for EDUCATION is visible at these forums. Think about staff
students, parents, community members, leaders of organizations-- who can attend and speak on behalf of the school system.
All of the forums are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., on the following dates:
- January 7, Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown.
- January 8, Mid-County Regional Services Center, Charles W. Gilchrist Multicultural Center, 11319 Elkin Street, Wheaton.
- January 10, Belmont Elementary School, 19528 Olney Mill Road, Olney.
- January 16, Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring.
- January 22, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda
- NEW DATE--January 24, Long Branch Community Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring.
For residents who cannot attend one of the budget forums, an online form is available to accept comments and ideas about the budget.
The form is available on the County's website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov by clicking on the online form link under the FY09 Budget
heading.
Sign language interpreter services will be provided only upon request with notice as far in advance as possible, but no less than
72 hours prior to the event. If these or other services or aids are needed to participate in this activity, call 240-777-6530 or TTY

Special Programs.
These are exciting opportunities for interesting and challenging experiences in high school. The program at Richard Montgomery High School is an International
Baccalaureate Diploma program. Poolesville High School offers 3 programs: A science, mathematics, computer science program; a humanities program; and a Global Ecology program.
To be eligible for the Poolesville programs, you must be in Algebra I or higher. To be eligible for the Richard Montgomery program, you must be in Algebra I or higher AND have 1 year
of a foreign language (if you are a native speaker of Spanish, French, or Chinese, you may also be eligible).
Some important dates to remember:
October 22 -IB Meeting at Richard Montgomery HS - 7:30 p.m.
October 25 - Poolesville Meeting at Poolesville High School - 7:00 p.m.
December 7 - ALL Applications deadline (postmarked or delivered)

Edline is a Web-based classroom-to-home communication system available
through the Internet requiring a valid user name and password to access
student information. Student achievement information, such as
individual assignment and assessment (class quizzes and tests) scores
and current course averages are available for each class.
Parents and students will have separate Edline accounts. Parent
accounts can be linked to each enrolled student. Once users (students,
parents, and teachers) receive an activation code, they will establish
their own user id and password.
Parent of students enrolled as of August 3, 2007 will be sent their
Parent Edline activation code via US Postal Service on/about August 27,
2007 by MCPS central office.
Parents of students enrolled after August 3, 2007 can contact the Edline
Administrator via e-mail at Pam_G_Lloyd@mcpsmd.org to obtain the parent
activation code.
New sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will begin to activate
their Edline accounts through their science classes during the second
and third weeks of school.
