Green Bank Field Trip
On January 9th and 10th, the 7th grade Math,Science, and Computer Science Center students took an overnight field trip to Green Bank, WV to visit the National Radio Telescope Observatory. Students had a blast learning about how astronomers use radio telescopes to observe objects in space that are invisible to the naked eye. The use of radio waves instead of visible light allow astronomers to see many objects that give off radio waves but not light, or see details that can't be seen because the light from stars is too bright. Students participated in engineering competitions, radio wave experiments, and they even had the opportunity to use a 40 foot radio telescope themselves to observe Hydrogen clouds in the Milky Way. This trip was truly "OUT OF THIS WORLD"!
