ID Public Service Announcement on the Effects of Over-fishing

by Rahul Menon and Ben San Nicolas

About This Video

This Public Service Announcement (PSA) was a science project we did in school. The project was supposed to be about the environment, so my partner and I decided to create a PSA on overfishing because we thought it would be an appropriate issue relevant to the Chesapeake Bay.

In the video, a guy walks into a room and asks his friend how his business was going. He replies that it was not good because of overfishing. The first guy asks him what that is, and he explains. He then asks how the previous day went and then there is a flash back to the previous day. The next scene shows how a shopper walks into the grocery store, looks around for a second, and then asks the owner (the friend in the first scene) if the seafood section had been moved. The owner replies that it hadn't, and then the shopper asks him if that meant that everything was gone. He agrees, and adds that all he had left was seaweed. The shopper harshly turns it down and walks out. In the third scene, my partner and I explain how you can help stop overfishing.

Overfishing essentially means fishing too much. Too much however is not a definite amount. By too much, it is meant that more fish are caught than are born. So with overfishing, eventually, species that are overfished will die out, and human beings will have to eat something else
