CLEARSPRING PTA COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Community and School Service Projects:
Clearspring Apparel    
This committee selects apparel company, publicizes available school apparel, takes orders and distributes orders when apparel arrives.
    Fall and Spring
Directory    
An opportunity to be creative and provide an interesting phone and information directory for the use of students and parents. This committee coordinates the art, publication and distribution of the directory at Back-to-School Night.
   
Safe Arrival Program    
This committee organizes volunteers to call families whose children have not arrived for school to ensure the child’s safety. This committee makes phone calls for approximately 1/2 hour each school morning (9:30-10:00) from the school office.
   
School Beautification    
This committee seeks ways to improve the appearance of the school and publicizes and organizes clean-up and planting days.
    As needed
Senior Center    
Provides opportunities to both the Clearspring children and the seniors of the Damascus Senior Center to share experiences. Liaison between the Senior Center and Clearspring to provide programs which enable the two to interact.
   
Special Needs    
A chance to learn about what the County is doing for special needs children and their parents. The chairperson attends a workshop and monthly meetings which discuss on-going situations and learning opportunities in the County and reports back to the PTA.

Yearbook    
The chairperson and committee members coordinate layouts, photos and sales with the producing company.
  Ongoing culminating in production of yearbook in May/June
Family Events:
Bingo    
A family fun night! This committee makes arrangements for prizes, refreshments and bingo equipment. Volunteers also help with ticket sales and refreshments on Bingo night.
  Once a year (Fall)
Dance(s)    
A family fun night! The chairperson and committee members organize and publicize as well as select the DJ for this event. Coordinates volunteers to set-up, clean-up and run the event.
  Twice a year
Donuts with Dad    
Provides time for Dads or other significant male role models with the opportunity to have donuts and juice with their child prior to the start of the school day. Committee members select the date, organize and shop for food items, set-up and clean-up for the event. This event was a big hit last year with the Dads and the kids.
  Spring
Grandparent's Day    
A fun filled day for students and grandparents. The chairperson and committee plan the day and organize and publicize this event. Committee members help out with name tags, set-up, refreshments and clean-up.
  November
Holiday Snoop Shop    
Provides an opportunity for your child(ren) to do their secret holiday shopping by arranging an in-school “snoop shop” full of low cost items. Chairperson and committee members select the dates and times, product company, set-up and break-down store, organize volunteers and assist shoppers.
  December
Movie Night(s)    
A fun night for the entire family to get together to watch a movie. Chairperson and committee members find age-appropriate movies, promote the event, coordinate refreshments, and set-up.
  Twice a year
Spring Fair    
A popular family event! Chairperson(s) and committee members select the date and time, organize the events (games, prizes, activities) and publicize the events to the school.
  Spring
Talent Show    
A chance for our students to showcase their talents. The chairperson and committee selects the date, time and place for the event and coordinates acts, scenery, rehearsals and refreshments.
  February
Fundraisers:
Book Fair    
Twice a year Clearspring sets up a temporary book store offering exciting media selections for our children. Chairperson and committee members select a book company, arrange dates and times. and organize volunteers to staff the event.

Corporate/Receipts Program    
Chairperson(s) and committee members publicize, collect and count General Mills box tops and recommend purchases for educational supplies and equipment. Additional information about this program can be found at www.boxtops4education.com. Chairperson(s) and committee members publicize, collect and count Campbell’s labels throughout the school year in compliance with the Campbell’s Program. Additional information on this program can be obtained at www.campbellslabel.com. Chairperson(s) will publicize Giant and Safeway receipt programs and coordinate, organize and oversee equipment orders from the proceeds.

Fall Fundraiser – Sally Foster    
One of the biggest and most prosperous fundraisers our school offers. Chairperson and committee members coordinate dates, publicity, counting orders, delivery and sorting and distribution of items.
 
Market Days    
Our school is participating in Market Day this year and the program promises to be a large fundraiser for the school. Each month restaurant quality food products will be available for purchase. Market Day products are competitively priced and the PTA will earn profit on your purchase. Chairperson(s) coordinate dates, publicity, and distribution and collection of brochures & order forms (orders may also be placed online). Chairperson(s) and committee members help set up and distribute items purchased on the scheduled sale date (generally the third or fourth Thursday evening of the month – beginning 10/23)
  Monthly
School Tool Box    
Provides parents with all their children’s school supplies required for the next year. Supply lists are collected from each teacher, and then given to the supply company (School Toolbox). They give back the cost, and order sheets. These are then distributed to each student, and orders collected. School Toolbox delivers the supplies individually boxed for each student. The boxes are then given out to each student.

Bakers’ List    
This chairperson and committee members provide refreshments for PTA and school functions. Committee arranges volunteers to donate baked goods and provides baked goods of their own for specific functions, including staff meetings on the first Tuesday of each month.

Staff Appreciation    
Meet Clearspring staff and help the PTA show how much they appreciate the staff’s dedication to our children and community. The chairperson and committee members organize breakfast, luncheons and gifts of appreciation for all staff members at various times of the year.
  August (breakfast), December (gift), February (soup & muffin lunch), and May (luncheon)
Legislative:
Cluster/SCAT Representative    
Learn the news firsthand! Meet with representatives from other Damascus cluster schools. Brainstorm for new ideas to enrich our community. This person(s) keeps the PTA in touch with various issues involving the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, etc. This position requires attending two evening meetings a month.

MCCPTA Delegate(s)    
Provides an opportunity to be involved in County PTA issues. Delegates attend monthly meetings and provide feedback to our PTA.
  4th Tuesday of each month
Operations:
Budget    
This committee sets the budget for the next school year. This group meets in the Spring with the Executive Board to establish a budget and dissolves after the budget is approved by the general board in September.
  June
Media Center Assistance    
Volunteers are needed every morning of the week and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons who are willing to work one to three hours either every week or alternating weeks. No experience needed; volunteers will be trained. Tasks may include: helping students or staff select/find materials, running the circulation desk, filing vendor catalogs, processing new materials (putting on book jackets and date due strips etc.), shelving materials, mending torn or damaged materials, adding new materials to the database, and/or preparing teaching materials.
 
Newsletter    
Responsible for publishing and distributing PTA’s monthly newsletter. The chairperson collects and edits articles submitted as well as other articles of interest to the school community. Committee members help with reporting and photography of school and PTA events, preparing the newsletter, copying and distributing the final product.
 
Nominating Committee    
Responsible for finding individuals to serve on the PTA Board for the succeeding school year and offers mentoring from current officers.
  Spring
Publicity    
This committee promotes Clearspring within the community by providing information to various local media as it is provided by various PTA committee chairpersons.

Volunteer Coordinator    
The chairperson handles getting volunteers for PTA committees, Kindergarten Orientation and Field Day. Chairperson arranges volunteer orientation in the Fall and tallies hours of volunteers sent to the County. The chairperson works with the principal, teachers, and PTA committees to arrange for volunteer help.

Website for Clearspring    
This committee updates and maintains the Clearspring website, working with the principal and PTA to include the latest information on the events and activities of Clearspring.

Student/Parent Education:
Cultural Arts    
Your children are provided with wonderful cultural experiences during school hours through puppet shows, musical performances, entertainment and other activities. The chairperson and committee members attend a cultural arts showcase in the Fall to preview programs then recommend and schedule activities.

FLES    
This committee organizes the Foreign Language for Elementary Schools program and assists with end of session parent program.
 
Group Piano    
Responsible for coordinating group piano lessons held at Clearspring during the school year.
 
Hands On Science    
Offer your child(ren) the connection with a popular and great scientific learning experience. Chairperson publicizes the program to the student body and coordinates the classes. Parents are trained and will be paid to run this program.
 
Homework Club    
This committee was organized to promote help with homework to those students whose parents feel they need a little extra help in understanding concepts/ideas. Chairperson and committee organize volunteers and work with the students twice a week.
 
Parent Education    
This committee focuses on ways to help parents and provides informative sessions relating to various topics of interest in the Clearspring community. Committee members assist with coordinating topics, surveys and events.
 
Reading Challenge    
This committee works with the principal and reading specialist to provide students with fun reading incentives throughout the year.

Volunteer Pool    
This is a new concept introduced to Clearspring this year in order to accommodate those parents/guardians who may not be able to commit to a committee at present but who would like to be able to help in some way during the current school year. By signing up as a member of the volunteer pool you are giving the volunteer coordinator permission to call you on the spur of the moment to see if you’re available for an hour or so on an as needed basis. Examples of occasions when you may be called upon are when we need help with the hearing and vision screenings or Kindergarten orientation during the spring term.
