The Clarksburg High School Signature Program is a whole school program designed to enhance and extend the comprehensive high school curriculum by providing students with a choice of unique learning opportunities. A Clarksburg HS student can choose to participate in one or all of three distinct learning opportunities organized within the Signature Program and geared to the motivated learner. The Capstone Project Program The Advanced Placement Power Scholars Program (APPS) The Early College Access Program (ECA)
Capstone Project Program: The Clarksburg High School Capstone Project Program is designed to enhance and extend the comprehensive high school curriculum in a technological environment, as well as provide students with unique project based learning experiences. The program seeks to build a bridge for students between educational skills and their relevancy in the real world. When electing to complete a Capstone Project, students will pursue their project through guided independent study, mentored by professionals in the field of the student's interest. They will meet periodically in Advisory classes to discuss the development and progress of their project as well as receive support. The project emphasizes collaboration, research, creativity, writing, and oral presentation. The phases of the Capstone Project include the development of a project exploring possible career pathways or investigating an area of strong interest, a five to ten page research paper on a related topic, a 10-15 minute presentation before a panel of staff with a presentation at a Signature Showcase that includes a visual display of their efforts in the Spring of their Junior or Senior year. The Advanced Placement Power Scholar Program (APPS): The APPS Program is designed as a four year course of study through which students follow a comprehensive curriculum combining honors level and advanced placement level course work. Students accepted into the program will follow a rigorous course of study designed to challenge the highly motivated learner. Students will receive structured support and skill refinement through their honors and advanced placement courses as well as through periodic meetings and seminars held at school. The program is designed to offer students flexibility in their schedules and allow them to pursue individual educational goals through their four years of study at Clarksburg High School. The Early College Access Program: The Early College Access Program is designed to give Clarksburg High School seniors the opportunity to enroll in credit bearing college courses either onsite through Montgomery College or online through the University of Maryland University College as a part of their school day. The program is the result of partnerships formed between MCPS and Montgomery College and the University of Maryland University College. Currently CHS is offering four onsite classes through Montgomery College and 84 Online Classes through the University of Maryland University College.
