Informational Meeting for 8th grade parents interested in the APPS Program on Wednesday Nov 18, 2010 @ 7 pm in the CHS Media Center.

Program Philosophy

The APPS Program is designed as a four year course of study through which students follow a comprehensive curriculum combining honors level and advanced placement level course work.  Students accepted into the program will follow a rigouous course of study designed to challenge the highly motivated learner.

Students in the program will receive structured support and skill refinement through their honors and advanced placement courses as well as through periodic meetings and seminars held at school.  The program is designed to offer students flexibility in their schedules and allow them to pursue individual educational goals through their four years of study at Clarksburg High School.

The Course of Study

  • In the freshman year, students are required to take one advanced placement course (APPS United States Government and Politics with NSL) and at least three academic honors courses.
  • In the sophomore year, students are required to take one advanced placement course (APPS US History) and at least three academic honors courses.
  • In the junior year of the program, students must take at least two advanced placement courses of their choice and at least three academic honors courses.
  • By the end of the senior year, the student should have successfully completed at least six advanced placement courses and twelve honors courses.

In addition, students will be required to:

• attend periodic group meetings and seminars.
       • take the corresponding advanced placement test for each of the six required   advanced placement courses.

The APPS Program is only availabe for students within the cluster. If a student outside the cluster opts to apply for this program, they must also apply for a transfer stating their unusual hardship. An acceptance into the APPS program will not serve as a reason for a transfer to be granted.
