November, 2009
As we conclude the first marking period, the Clarksburg High School community has many reasons to celebrate. Our students are reaching and exceeding our strategic targets in a safe and productive learning environment. Some of the highlights from our first two months of the 2009-2010 school year are listed below:
· Clarksburg High School achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the Federal No Child Left Behind guidelines for the third year in a row! · Our 2009 graduation rate was 95%! · School spirit reached an all-time high during Homecoming Week. Over 900 students attended a tradition-rich, fun-filled Homecoming Dance. · Over 170 juniors registered to take the PSAT on October 14th, making them eligible for National Merit Scholarship recognition based on their performance. · We inducted our largest cohort group ever into the National Honor Society. · Our Advanced Placement Power Scholars (APPS) program continues to grow as we welcomed our largest group ever during an evening reception this fall. · Our PTSA membership drive has been extremely successful. More of our families are getting involved and the PTSA recently hosted a highly successful Vendor Fair fundraising event featuring over 50 vendors. · Our Athletic Booster Club hosted its most successful golf tournament ever, raising thousands of dollars for our student-athletes. · We implemented our Academic Support Keystone period on Tuesdays, providing our students with the opportunity to complete missing assignments and eliminate “zero” grades. · We hosted the 10th annual MCPS Latin Dance Competition, a culminating event recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. Our team finished second and two CHS couples won their respective dance categories.
Woori Bong, a senior, has been recognized as a National Merit Semi-Finalist. She is now eligible to become our second National Merit Finalist.
Throughout the 2009-2010 school year, we will continue to celebrate what is right with Clarksburg High School. It is clearly evident that we are taking ownership of our school community.
We look forward to our best year ever at Clarksburg High School.
GO COYOTES!
