We hope to spread awareness of Asian culture, specifically in the field of comics and art appreciation. We will work on craft and other related items to sell at a convention in the middle of the year. We hope to attain money to help improve the library’s graphic novel selection. We will hold fundraisers to accomplish this and to buy supplies for the club. Fundraiser will include pizza sales, donuts, carnival booth, etc... We hope to teach a deeper appreciation of culture and help develop artistic ability
Asian American Club Sponsor: Jared Pulliam (jared_pulliam@mcpsmd.org)
Learn about Asian Culture by tasting authentic Asian food, watch award winning Asian movies and establish a network of friendship. We will go to Asian restaurants, have culture parties, and learn about the language and history of different Asian countries. We will have periodic volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. Members are expected to attend meetings regularly. We may have some week-end activities in addition to lunchtime meetings. At the first meeting, we will introduce officers and brainstorm activities of interest.

Spread the word of Jesus Christ and provide fellowship and worship. At meetings, we sing praise songs and study the Bible. We spend most of our time in fellowship, getting to know each other better, sharing thoughts and opinions, and often participating in friendly discussions or debates about religion and other topics related to students. Some events outside of school include parties, movies, and potluck meals

McTag is the Media Center teen advisory group. We work to fund raise and give feedback to the library. Our goal is to promote literacy by expanding the amount of books in the library.

We will be practicing and participating in the University of MD Chemathon. Members are expected to attend practices every week during. Expectations include setup and clean up of lab apparatus.

The Chess Club provides an opportunity for everyone to play chess, improve their skills, and enjoy the game. A school team is organized in the Spring to represent WCHS in local tournaments. We encourage all participants to show respect to each other regardless of rank: Beginner to Grand Master. Official meetings will be held monthly, although members are welcome to use the boards at any time.

Starting Sept. 6 we will have meetings a week before an event. We will have some meetings on line. We hope to raise enough funds to print 2,500 T-shirts to distribute to the students and staff of WCHS. The shirts will have suggestions to help the environment. We will have all students wear the shirts on one day and make a video to be viewed showing our goals of green awareness.
Civitans Club Sponsor: Joan Zuckerman (joan_p_zuckerman@mcpsmd.org)
This is a prestigious (National) Community Service club, where students will help out around the area and can earn SSL hours. During meetings we will discuss and organize events that will help the community, such as Potomac day and the Walk for the homeless. Some fundraisers to be held will include candy grams, toiletry drives, soup kitchen, and pizza sales and more, in order to raise money for charities. As a group, we will participate in various charity walks and volunteer at local charity organizations. We expect members to attend a majority of the civitian activities, pay member dues to join the national Civitans Club, and be active in service to the community.

Opportunity to cook with your friend, eat, and get SSL hours. We use cooking to promote cultural approach to help the hungry. We help locally through the Rockville Homeless Shelter; nationally through Share Our Strength to combat childhood hunger; globally through the Hunger Project which helps the hungry in developing countries in Africa and Asia. In our first year we cooked and donated over 1,000 meals to the homeless shelter, raised and donated over $1,000.00 to various charities, and were featured in the Gazette newspaper. We have become a multi school operation with a sister branch at Northwestern High School. Join us! Be a part of a club that accomplishes goals.

The Churchill Dance Team is a vibrant group of students who infuse contemporary styles of dance into their choreography. Performances have included school and local events.

We try to actively involve students in drama. At meetings, we will discuss upcoming shows and drama related events. The club will host informal theatre activities at lunch and after school as well as organize field trips to see professional shows. Through the drama club, thespians and non-thespians and will be a means of congregating and sharing their love of theatre.

The “Each One, Reach One” Peer Mentoring Program (Best Buddies) shall provide opportunities for young people to be in on-going, mutually beneficial, caring relationships which strengthen their resiliency to the challenges they face and build connectedness to school and community.

We recycle on a weekly basis. We have headed the Churchill branch of the Green Schools program, which included the T-8 retrofitting project that replaced our old light bulbs with more efficient bulbs (saving the school over $27,000 in energy spending and earning us a $5,000 check from the program. We petitioned for more clean energy usage in Montgomery County and had guest speakers who spoke about global warming, the ICC, and other environmental issues. We also had a creek cleanup and purchased nine acres of Amazon rainforest via the Nature Conservatory. We also influenced the school’s purchase of a better bike rack of recycled materials so more students would chose to ride bikes to school instead of driving. We are also open to suggestions from participants! Fund raisers provide money for our environmental initiatives, and donations to important environmental causes. Student service learning hours are available.

This club intends to get people together who have a “passion for fashion” and share their ideas and perspective of fashion. The club will meet in the beginning of the year to discuss upcoming events such as the fashion show. When it gets closer to mid November the club will meet every two weeks. During the meeting, everyone will share their designs for the fashion show which will take place near the end of the school year. The fashion show would be a great activity to get student designers to create and show off their designs. People also interested in modeling, fashion hair and makeup would get an opportunity also. The members are expected to come to the majority of the meetings. They are also expected to help out with the fashion show in the spring.

Our goal is to educate Churchill students about the impact films have made on American culture and society by watching and discussing landmark films in our nation’s history.

As part of the Montgomery County Forensics League (MCFL) and the National Forensics League (NFL), Churchill’s Forensics Team allows for opportunity to exercise the power of “speech”. Students compete at meets several times during the school year in categories such as: Children’s Literature, serious dramatic interpretation, humorous poetry, prose, extemporaneous, informative, persuasive speaking, ensemble acting and readers’ theater.

Our club is a social activism group where “children help children through education.” We believe that education is a vital part of life and by giving kids from developing countries the chance to get an education, through donating money to build schools throughout the world, we change the world.

We are dedicated to promoting tolerance and to creating a safe space for all students regardless of sexual orientation. During meetings, we sill discuss issues relating to sexual discrimination, and gender issues. We will also share information on the history of such subjects, attempt to educate the student body, and organize relevant out of school events. Last year, the GSA sold ribbons for Aids research, participated in school-wide diversity event, participated in the National Day of Silence, and had movie night. We hope to plan additional activities. Members are expected to be honest, keep an open mind, and honor confidentially requested of them.

Habitat for Humanity Sponsor: Christopher Forney (christopher_j_forney@mspsmd.org) Habitat for Humanity works with individuals, institutions, businesses and the Habitat Families themselves to build simple decent affordable housing for those living in substandard conditions in our community. Club mission: To raise awareness in our community for the need of affordable housing. To work side by side with the MC of MD affiliate to educate, advocate, raise funds and volunteer to help support their needs. SSL Hours are available.

The Horseback Riding Clubs meets monthly to dicsuss a shared interest in horses and horse riding. In addition, we plan and support horse related charities, in particular the use of therapeutic horse back riding sessions.

The Key Club is the oldest International student led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. We support many causes such as UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Friend a Gorilla Foundation to save endangered gorillas. To promote art and creative literature through the production of an original manga. During meetings, members will work on script writing, view other published works, design characters, and analyze plot and literary devices. In addition, members will also write and illustrate an original manga. We will hold bake sales, sushi sales, pizza sales and Art sales to raise money for art supplies and other fees. We would also raise money to donate to third world countries. Most fundraising will occur after school. Members are expected to attend 75% of meetings, contribute ideas, and attend events.

As the premier elite mathematics competition corps, we, the Math Team, have competed in any number of prestigious mathematics examinations and competitions in the local and national collaboration. We promoted the study of mathematics and represented the school in competitions against other institutions of learning. When not preparing for these competitions, we strove to enhance our knowledge of this classic yet still applicable discipline, and to bring the light of mathematics into the hearts and mind of others. We will promote/inform the local community about disasters that are impacting our society today via pamphlets, You Tube, and other sources of media to encourage others to help our cause.
Medical Masterminds Sponsor: Jodi Boppana (jodi_boppana@mcpsmd.org)
This club learns about the different fields of medicine through medical trivia and fun tournaments. At club meetings, members split up into different teams, and then proceed through two rounds of questions, questions for the individual group, and a free-for-all round. The winners of the tournament receive prizes at the end of each meeting. Occasionally, this club conducts practices and drills of important medical concepts, i.e. learning how to take blood pressure or bandaging a broken arm. Club members are expected to attend a least 75% of the club meetings, and participate in club activities. Possible fundraisers for this include pizza or candy sales after school, car washes at local gas stations, etc... If other schools develop this club then we will hold interscholastic tournaments.

However, this did not really work and the club should move back to its roots, hence the name change. We will focus on taking and critiquing our pictures and enjoying doing it.

The team members are expected to be interested in Science and Math, taking high level courses (AP level), and have maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA.

We Help Other People (WE H.O.P.) Sponsor: ??
We make it out mission to reach out to the neighborhood, but we specifically work with the Children’s Inn at NIH. We decorate the Inn for major holidays, interact with the children staying at the Inn, host Sunday Suppers for families staying with their children at the Inn, and have fundraisers (such as bake sales) to support various programs for the children. There will be events outside of school; therefore, members are expected to participate.
