Honor Societies at WCHS 

Spanish Honor Society

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish. Any student who has maintained a GPA of 3.7 and has taken three semesters of Spanish in high school may apply.

To remain an active member of the Spanish Honor Society, you must:

  • Maintain an overall unweighted GPA of 3.7
  • Maintain a Spanish GPA of 3.7
  • Be enrolled in a Spanish course for all four years (unless you’ve completed AP Spanish Literature)

French Honor Society

Applicants for the French Honor Society must have an overall unweighted GPA of 3.6 or above, a 3.6 average in French, and must have completed 3 semesters of high school French.  Members must participate in all meetings and fundraisers held throughout the year, and must complete a 10-hour minimum of tutoring.

National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS)

Qualifications for membership: A regularly enrolled student of secondary school (grades 9-12) who has

  1. Taken a minimum of three semesters of Chinese at Churchill High School
  2. Maintained an overall B grade or better in Chinese and other academic subjects
  3. Displayed character, leadership, and service

English Honor Society

The WCHS English Honor Society recognizes students who have displayed outstanding academic achievment as well as demonstrated the qualities of diligence, initiative, and commitment to helping others.  Our purpose is to create enthusiasm about the English Language; promote excellence in English studies; advance the student's understanding and knowledge of the English language; and encourage participation in events and activities dedicated to the pursuit of expanding knowledge.

Art Honor Society

The WCHS National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is committed to recognizing high school students who demonstrate outstanding abilities in the visual arts.  NAEA's National Art Honor Society programs have recognized students that exhibit the highest standards in the visual arts, and that bring art education to the attention of their schools and communities.  The NAHS program provides avenues for recognition of the artistic talents and leadership roles for visual arts students, while spotlighting the success and community work of our school's art program.

Students must have a minimum of one semester and a B average in art to join the NAHS chapter at WCHS.  They must complete and submit chapter registration form along with a chapter fee for each student member.  Each NAHS member receives a certificate and membership cards at an induction ceremony as well as a tassel at graduation.

Purpose:

  • Sponsoring art shows, organizing visits to local art museums, galleries and other art events
  • Volunteering locally and participating in community service projects
  • Attending or participating in art-related fundraisers

Mu Alpha Theta is the Math Honor Society

Qualifications

  • The student will have taken all honors math classes throughout high school.
  • The student will participate in the Mu Alpha Theta math tutoring program.
  • The student has and will maintain a 4.0 average in all math classes.
  • The student must be enrolled in AP Calculus or higher.
  • The student will have a math teacher submit a teacher recommendation form.
  • The student will demonstrate the four characteristics of a Mu Alpha Theta member:  excellence, industry, initiative, and reliability.

National Honor Society

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IS OPEN TO SECOND SEMESTER JUNIORS .

Students must meet the following criteria:

SCHOLARSHIP : 3.5 unweighted GPA

SERVICE:  3 long term community service activities

CHARACTER:  5 teacher recommendations

LEADERSHIP:  2 positions where the student was chosen/nominated to oversee others, and has served for a season or semester in that role prior to induction.

Applications will be available mid-September and late March in the Media Center, Main Office and the Counseling Office.
