Endangered Species
The issue of endangered animals is one of the most complex problems facing scientists. Scientists from the Fish and Wildlife Service (scientists in charge of protecting endangered species) have an idea for helping protect endangered animals. They would like students to become experts on the issue of endangered animals so they may inform others on the dilemmas these animals face. By researching specific endangered specie in the media center, you will become an expert on your chosen animal.
Fish and Wildlife would then like students to support their cause by informing other students of the plight your animal is facing. Choose one of the projects below to inform other kids.
- Create a "Learning Poster" on the endangered animal chosen
- Use the program Publisher, to create a brochure about your animal
- Write a featured article that can be included in the 4th grade Endangered Species Gazette
- Become a teacher! Prepare a lesson that will teach others about your animal. You will have to plan carefully, provide visuals for the class and be able to present your material in 5-6 minutes. This must be approved by your teacher!
Information about your animal should include:
- Facts about your animal
- The animal’s name
- Places and Habitats
- The animal’s diet
- The animal’s status-How many are left?
- Threats and causes of endangerment
- Ways to protect your animal.
- Reasons your animal is important to the ecosystem.
Your teacher will provide you with the 6 traits writing rubrics for Ideas, Organization and Conventions. If you choose to teach the class, you must include a report on your animal that includes the key topics. Use the Choice Form to inform your teacher of the animal you have chosen and how you will present your information.
