Grade 5: Meet the Teachers

Connolly Kaitlin Connolly, 5th grade teacher - Reading
My name is Kaitlin Connolly and I started teaching at Chevy Chase in 2013. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Salisbury University. Outside of the classroom I really enjoy reading, baking, running, playing field hockey, cheering on my favorite Washington teams, and spending time on the beach!
Chu Eunice Chu, 5th grade, Center for Enriched Studies - Math, Science, & Writing
I came to CCES in 1994 fresh out of graduate school and originally taught 3rd grade. Since then, I've also been an instructional specialist and science lab teacher.  In 2010, I joined the HGC team and haven't looked back since! Apart from teaching, I also love reading, running, cooking, and spending time with my husband, three children and our dog, Milo!

Friis Terry Friis, 5th grade teacher - Social Studies
I have been teaching at Chevy Chase ES since 2006 after teaching 4th grade at Bethesda ES for eight years. My previous assignments range from third through sixth grade, during which time my main focus has been reading and writing.  I am an avowed bibliophile as evidenced by the bulging shelves in my classroom, and enjoy sharing my love of reading and writing with my students. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education, and I earned a master’s degree in Reading and am a certified reading specialist. I treasure spending time with my family, reading, thrift-store shopping, traveling, writing letters, and my newfound love---working on my son’s livestock farm and hatchery!
