MR. ADAM'S NEWS

by Mr. Adam Soffrin

It's hard to believe that it's already November! This year has flown by so far, thanks to all of our fun and exciting activities. We have kept very busy, both in and out of the classroom, and have learned so much! October started with our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch at Butler's Orchard – we saw all sorts of barnyard animals, got to pick our own pumpkins, and enjoyed a wonderful spooky hayride! We even got to eat some fresh-picked apples! A real autumn treat!

In class, we've continued to work hard on identifying letters, words, numbers and colors, and have started to work on putting together patterns, too! Our movement class has been going great (thanks to Mrs. Hicok!) and Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Gugel have helped us learn how to make healthy and delicious snacks during cooking!

October was capped off with a beautiful Halloween parade and party (thank you, Mrs. Kitzmiller!) as well as some wild costumes all around! We’re all looking forward to a healthy and fun November, and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome to the 2nd marking period!

Here we are well into our author study, currently focusing on Laura Numeroff—If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Take a Mouse to School. Our next author will be H. A. Rey—Curious George. The children are beginning to identify the title, some with the use of a penlight! We have also been having some successes with answering "what" and "who" questions! All of the children really seem to enjoy the adapted books we use.

Our community training experiences have included trips to Target, Trader Joe's, Wheaton Plaza, McDonald's, Roy Rogers, and WalMart. The children prepare for the trips by identifying by picture WHERE we are going, WHAT we will see there, WHAT they will order for lunch, and HOW they will get there. They also count dollar bills and place them into their wallets for buying their lunches.

We work on our letters, numbers, and colors on a daily basis. Our science units are Myself/Others and Weather. Our Movement Group continues to be a favorite activity for all! A few of our children have begun to sing along with some of the songs--a first for us!

We know that this is a hard time of year to stay healthy and are trying very hard to keep children’s hands and toys/materials washed. As our principal Mrs. Stamoulis has mentioned before, please be aware of any flu-type symptoms in your child and remember that we are trying to keep those germs from spreading here at school. Our goal is to keep all of our children healthy!
