RENOVATION STATION - February 4, 2009
The building is on schedule to be completed by July 15th. If you've driven by lately, you have seen that the outside is almost complete. I'm looking forward to my first chance to wear a hard hat and tour the building in the next couple of weeks. We have placed our first furniture order and are turning our attention to technology next. We are excited about the Promethean boards - our colleagues in other renovated schools have shared some wonderful things they are doing with them. We really will be a 21st century school!

RENOVATION STATION (from the 10/22/2008 Spotlight)

Each time I drive by Cashell, I get more excited! The renovation is still on schedule and, as you can see, is moving along very nicely. The steel frame is in place for the two-story classroom wing, and the gym is completely enclosed. We have been instructed to start ordering furniture and equipment, which is also exciting, and a little bit intimidating.

We will be visiting other newly-renovated schools to see how they set up their classrooms and what furniture and materials they ordered. We are fortunate to have the support of the Department of Materials Management as we work through this process!

Workers pack gravel around a storm water management pipe at the Cashell Road construction site.

Progress is being made on the storm water control structure.

Workers at the site on Cashell Road bolted this crane together and then raised the boom into the sky.

RENOVATION STATION 9/26/07

Next week will be the first BIG construction meeting for our new school! The plans are 65% finished, and we will be reviewing them in detail. I am very grateful to Nancy DeLalio, Ethan's mom, who has been giving me a crash course in reading architectural plans and teaching me the kinds of questions I should be asking...like...how do they plan to drain water from the courtyard? Having a good answer to that question will mean the difference between having a courtyard or a pond outside the Media Center!

SAVE THE DATE!! On November 8th from 7:30-8:30 p.m. we will have a PTA meeting in the APR at North Lake Center. You will have a chance to tour the building and practice carpooling!

RENOVATION STATION 9/12/07

This week's update should be a short one. I know there were some questions about parking at North Lake. While parking is tight there, I think we will be okay for everyday parking. There should be plenty of room for our daily volunteers to park in the lot.

We will run into problems when we have large school events like Back to School Night or the Family Picnic. There is no overflow parking in the neighborhood, so we will have to be creative when we are planning these events.

For example, we will probably have TWO Back to School Nights next year instead of just one. And we will encourage car pooling as much as possible.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions for de-stressing the parking situation, please let me know.
