Media Center Notes
During April the Media Center will celebrate School Library Media Month. With the generous support of the PTA, we are quite fortunate to have authors visit Cashell. On Monday, April 21st, Carole Boston Weatherford will visit with the second through fifth grade classes. She has written books about famous African Americans including Harriet Tubman, Jesse Owens, and Matthew Hensen. She has received several awards for her books and will share her writing experience with the students. On Tuesday, April 29th, Janet Morgan Stoeke will visit the pre-kindergarten through second grade classes. Mrs. Stoeke has written and illustrated the Minerva Louise series and The Bus Stop. She will share her writing and illustrations with the students.
The Media Center has an arrangement with Children's Literature in Bethesda and will be selling books by our visiting authors. Flyers and order forms have been sent home with the students. We are providing this service as a convenience to those who wish to purchase these items so that they may be autographed by the authors. However, there is no obligation to buy any items.
During the fourth week in April, the students will be voting for their favorite Black-Eyed Susan book. The students in the primary grades have been read to or read independently at least eight of the fourteen nominated books. The fourth and fifth grade students have read at least three of the ten nominated books. The winners for each category are announced on May 3rd in Annapolis, Maryland.
