Kindergarten
Dear Kindergarten Parents,
It seems as if we were just beginning the month of October and now were thinking about Thanksgiving.
The kindergarteners are working very hard. We have many exciting lessons and activities planned for the month.
Math
We are matching numbers to sets and ordering sets. We will learn to sort objects into equal and unequal sets. We are identifying sets with more and less. As the quarter progresses, we will be learning about the ordinal numbers (1st-10th) and odd and even numbers.
Social Studies
We are finishing Unit One of our social studies curriculum focusing on family and friends, groups, leaders, and rules. Our culminating activity will be a family mobile. Unit Two is titled "A Big Wide World" and will focus on people, places and jobs, geography and economics. We will also be learning about our first Thanksgiving. We will be discussing what life was like for the children and their families during those early years. We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving Feast. Details about the feast will be coming soon.
Science
We will continue to discussions of "Myself and Others" in science. We have talked about how we are the same and different from our friends and family members. We look forward to lessons which specifically focus on our individual characteristics.
Language Arts
We will be focusing on predictions, outcomes of stories, and identifying the problem and solution in a story. Writing Workshop lessons have included personal experiences, making lists, and writing notes for different purposes. Next quarter, we will be working on sequencing skills as we write about our memories. We will continue to work on our speaking skills: organizing our thoughts before we speak and speaking in a clear voice. We continue to work on our listening skills in class. We are adding new words to our word wall. Please review word wall words that are listed in your childs assignment notebook. Have fun reading, writing, and spelling these words.
Sincerely,
Chrisi Homon and Andrea Siska
