September 2003
Dear Parents,
The following rubrics will be used in our class this year. The students and I have read the rubrics. I am sending the rubrics home so that you will have a better understanding of how your child is doing in class. I also hope that you will help to reinforce these standards, and their importance, with your child.
Some work will be marked for completion only. (Homework will typically be graded in this way.) This work will be marked as follows:
![]() | the work has been satisfactorily completed and is neat |
![]() | the work has been satisfactorily completed |
![]() | the work has not been satisfactorily completed and should be resubmitted |
Some work will be marked for overall finished product. (Classwork will typically be graded in this way.) This work will be marked as follows:
O | the work has been completed, demonstrates outstanding mastery of the grade level objective, and is in "final draft" form |
S | the work has been completed and demonstrates basic understanding of the grade level objective |
N | the work has not been completed and/or does not demonstrate understanding of the objective, and should be resubmitted |
Special assignments will have their own rubrics, and some assignments will call for student-generated rubrubrics.
Please note that effective effort is valued in the classroom and will be reported along with work study skills, on the report card, and in comments and/or parent conferences. Also, report card grades are based on consistent demonstration of proficiency on a variety of measures over time.
In addition to receiving a grade for content, writing assignments will also be graded in the following areas:
Sincerely,
Grade One
