Dear Parents,

Homework for the primary team at Cashell Elementary will be about 15-20 minutes on all non-holiday nights except Fridays. The rationale for our homework is as follows:

• It reinforces skills and materials learned in class.
• It prepares students for upcoming class topics.
• It teaches students to work independently.
• It teaches students to assume responsibility for their own work.
• It teaches students organizational and time-management skills.

We expect students to to their best job on their homework. We expect students to do the work on their own and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort. We expect that all assignments will be turned in on time.

Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, we ask that parents make homework at top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, and contact us if they notice a problem. If there is a legitimate reason why a student is not able to finish homework, please send a note on the day the homework is due stating the reason it was not completed.

Please sign the homework book each night. Students should place completed homework in their homework folder.
