Art News
In art, all classes are drawing, using various media. Drawing will be followed by painting. Some projects tend to be messy. Please be aware of your child's art day and have your child dress appropriately. There are smocks available in the art room. If you would like, your child may bring in a smock to use and take it home the same day.
Music News
In general music students experience music through singing, playing instruments, moving to music, listening to music and creating. All class activities follow the National Music Standards:
- Singing alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
- Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
- Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments
- Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines
- Reading and notating music
- Listening to, analyzing, and describing music
- Evaluating music and music performances
- Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts
- Understanding music in relation to history and culture
In addition to general music classes, Candlewood E.S. 4th and 5th graders are invited to participate in our wonderful school chorus. Students rehearse once a week; they present a winter concert and a spring performance. In addition, the 4th and 5th grade chorus has taken many field trips and done a number of service projects. By joining the chorus students can develop their singing skills and also feel a sense of teamwork and pride.
Please click here to visit Ms. Kipper’s music web site for performance details and more information on music activities.
Thank you very much for supporting the arts at Candlewood Elementary School!
P.E. News
Physical activity is extremely important, and physical education is one of the most important classes of the day for your child. Current research points to an important correlation between physical activity and academic achievement. Research from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention has indicated that students with lower grades are less likely to participate in physical activity and have more unhealthy eating habits than students with higher grades.
Eat a healthy diet and keep moving!
