Task Description


Recording Director:

Take notes and attendance for all meetings

Communications and Financial Director:

Meets with administration and/or PTSA to discuss ideas and events for SGA.  Works with the advisor(s) when reporting the treasury balance

MCJC Liaison:

Helps to hand out permission forms, worksheets, agenda and newsletters to the members. Organize SSL forms

Facilities Director:

Makes sure the room for meetings are set up and ready to go. After the meeting, they make sure in back in place.

Spirit Director:

Help with organizing Spirit week.

Service Director:

Helps to coordinate the Red Ribbin week, Can Food Drive, Clothing Drive

Social Director:

Helps coordinate Dances

Publicity Directors:

Helps make posters,  flyers, PA and Pride announcements

Public Relations Director:

Helps organize Appreciation days.


Welcome to the Cabin John Middle School Student Government Association (SGA). This year will be a fun and exciting year of different events and school involvement. Any and every student can become involved with SGA at any time. We would love to see you at the meetings!
Meetings are held every Tuesday after school from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in Mrs. McWhirter’s classroom, Room 2103. We like consistent participation, but feel free to come when you can make it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. McWhirter or Mrs. Cruz
If there is a change, an announcement will be made in the morning.
SGA Purpose
The purpose of the Cabin John Middle School Student Government Association is to provide the Student body with a voice in school affairs.
Some SGA activities include:

  • Community Fundraising
  • Spirit Weeks
  • Socials and Dances
  • Montgomery County Junior Council Meetings
  • Student Member of the Board Elections

Guide to acronyms commonly used:
MCJC - Montgomery County Junior Council (County level of SGA)
MASC - Maryland Association of Student Councils (State level of SGA)
SMOB - Student Member of the Board
Executive Board - comprised of the SGA Presidents from each of the middle schools - meetings are held in the evenings at CESC
General Assembly - comprised of all members of SGA in each middle school - meetings are held during the school day at various middle schools around the county.
